Last week at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025, HE Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, highlighted? the UAE’s leadership the region “as the fastest-growing clean energy market,” emphasizing its crucial role in stabilizing global energy markets and driving sustainable development through significant domestic energy investments. The UAE aims to reach 14.2 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, continuing to lead global efforts in renewable energy innovation and contributing to a sustainable future for all. As part of its Net Zero 2050 Strategy, the UAE is working to ensure a sustainable and diversified energy sector, fostering long-term growth and innovation. The UAE is home to three of the world’s largest solar plants, with more projects underway. To expand renewable energy use, the UAE launched the Distributed Solar System (DSS) project, enabling customers to generate their own solar power by installing rooftop PV systems. Revolutionizing waste management with cutting-edge innovation. The Sharjah Waste-to-Energy Plant, a collaboration between BEEAH Group, Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), and Veolia, has reached a remarkable milestone—processing over 500,000 tons of waste since its inauguration in 2023. This state-of-the-art facility, the first of its kind in the region, is instrumental to the emirate of Sharjah's ambition to achieve zero waste to landfill. Producing 30 MW of low-carbon energy per hour, enough to power 28,000 homes, the plant has also offset 750,000 tons of CO2 emissions, recovered valuable materials, and exported clean energy to the grid.
