???Bringing the Past to the Present: Unlocking Hydrological History in the Sava River Basin????? Proud to share my latest research,?“Hydrological Dynamics and Climate Variability in the Sava River Basin: Streamflow Reconstructions Using Tree-Ring-Based Paleo Proxies”, now published in?Water! This study delves into?centuries of hydrological variability, reconstructing historical streamflow using?tree-ring proxies, machine learning, and deep learning techniques. By integrating these advanced approaches, we provide?new perspectives on long-term drought conditions, helping to improve water management strategies in Southeastern Europe. ???Key Findings: ? The 2000–2022 period ranks among the driest in the last 500 years. ? ML and DL models, combined with bias correction, enhance hydrological reconstructions. ? Tree-ring-based scPDSI proxies offer a?valuable lens?into past hydrological extremes. ???Why it Matters By extending historical hydrological records, we offer?a crucial foundation for future water resource planning and adaptation strategies under a changing climate. ?? Read the full article here:?https://lnkd.in/egS_CYEy ?? A huge thank you to my co-authors?Igor Le??e?en, PhD., Dr. Glenn Tootle, Dr. Jiaqi Gong, and Milan Josi??for their invaluable contributions, and to the?Alabama Water Institute, Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH) at The University of Alabama, and the National Science Foundation (NSF) NRT Water R2O at The University of Alabama?for supporting this research. ?? How do you see the role of?paleoclimate data and AI-driven reconstructions?in improving water management worldwide? Would love to hear your thoughts! Let’s push the boundaries of hydrology and climate science together! ???? #Paleohydrology #ClimateScience #WaterResources #MachineLearning #Hydrology

The team has been hard at work getting the latest snow energy balance site installed at Sundance (UT) - a collaboration between the U of U Snow HydRO Lab & Dr. Matt Olson at UVU ???? What’s the main complaint for snow melt modeling and quatifying trends over time? That there aren’t enough observations to capture snow variability in mountain environments! We are testing new site designs for low cost low impact flexible sensing setups, focused on the most critical variables w/ real time communication, that will allow us to increase observation density, optimize placement to best capture spatial variability, and improve process based modeling in heterogeneous landscapes. Funded through Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH) at The University of Alabama. Thanks to Sundance Resort for facilitating/hosting, Steven Clark for instrumentation expertise, and Willam Roe, Steven & Matt for putting in the time to build & install ??

I’m excited to share my experience presenting at the American Geophysical Union 2024 (#AGU24) this past December in Washington, D.C.! I had the privilege of showcasing two posters: One of the posters I presented was titled "Bankfull and Mean-flow Channel Geometry Estimation through Machine Learning Algorithms across the CONtiguous United States (CONUS)". This research, which is a part of my PhD dissertation, reflects my dedication to advancing our understanding of #channelGeometry using #machineLearning techniques. The second poster I presented was titled "Flood Damage Prediction Using Geospatial Data and Machine Learning". This collaborative project was conducted as part of the National Water Center Summer Institute Innovation Program, funded by the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. (CUAHSI), NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, and Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH) at The University of Alabama. I’m incredibly grateful to Dr. Kelsey R. McDonough, Ph.D., and ?Dr. Sanjib Sharma?for their invaluable guidance throughout the project. A special thank you also goes to my fantastic teammate, Corrine Celupica-Liu, for co-presenting this work with me. I’m deeply grateful to my advisor, Dr. Sagy Cohen, for his constant support and mentorship throughout these projects, and to the Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH) at The University of Alabama for funding my PhD journey. Attending #AGU24 was an enriching opportunity to share my work, learn from inspiring researchers, and connect with the scientific community. Looking forward to continuing this journey of growth, collaboration, and impact!
