For the first time in UAB’s history, we are a fully unified brand — across medicine, campus, and athletics. We’re proud to be part of this bold new chapter at UAB! Go Blazers! ??

  • Our school is honored to partner with Japan's Meikai and Asahi University for a wonderful annual exchange program! Last fall, dental students from Meikai University and Asahi University visited our school (hosted by a team of our D4 students) and had the chance to observe UAB dental students as they engaged in clinical activities as part of an exchange program at UAB SOD. Recently, our D4 students had the incredible opportunity to visit these students in their own country. They got to visit and experience the Japanese dental schools, while also immersing themselves in the culture and customs of Japan. We are proud of our students and this tremendous exchange opportunity!

  • Our employee appreciation night at the UAB Men's Basketball game was a slam dunk! Last Thursday, our team came together to celebrate an employee appreciation night at the UAB Men's Basketball game. This special occasion has become a fun annual tradition, marked by a sense of camaraderie and recognition for the hard work and dedication of our team. Dean Geurs has established a custom where he selects one employee to receive the game ball. This year, SOD staff member and director of development Kerry Chesnut received the ball! #EmployeeAppreciation #GoBlazers

  • Student research took center stage last Thursday! The UAB SOD held its 20th Scholars Symposium last week, which showcased oral health research completed by students – dental and graduate students, residents, postdoctoral fellows, and college students – during their enrollment at UAB. Based on their posters, first place award winners were Yostina Nicola & Kayla Holcombe and Ali Nazari in predoctoral scholarly activity (a tie), Jinah Kim in postdoctoral scholarly activity, Hani Ali for postdoctoral basic sciences, Timothy Weber and Mahdi Zakeri for postdoctoral clinical sciences, Sarah Edmonds for predoctoral basic sciences, and Toby Liu for predoctoral clinical sciences. Kayla McCullough was awarded the SCADA Award sponsored by Dentsply Sirona. Several students will present their research at the 2025 AADOCR/CADR Conference in New York from March 12-15, 2025. Yeri Kim and Avery Lieber will represent UAB at the Hinman Student Research Symposium held in October in Memphis. Congratulations to all the 20th Annual Scholars Symposium winners!

  • Every child deserves a healthy smile! The Department of Pediatric Dentistry hosted its annual volunteer initiative Give Kids A Smile? at the Sidney B. Finn Pediatric Dentistry Clinic on Wednesday. Event volunteers provided free, accessible dental care to qualifying local children in need. The event raises awareness of the epidemic of untreated dental disease, while also enabling those who may not otherwise receive regular dental care the dental attention they needed. Dr. Soler-Ballman, assistant professor, shares her excitement, "We were able to see 42 kids and make a real difference in their oral health and overall well-being. Seeing everyone come together to serve these children was truly inspiring." Learn more: https://buff.ly/l2wChN8
