At last month’s Power Hour, we?chatted about how to achieve role clarity and how it helps us define our path to success.?During this session, we discussed how to have conversations with your mentors and supervisors about how to achieve personal and professional alignment. ? To continue the conversation, this month we will discuss how to?adapt to when our plans change unexpectedly, and?how to talk to our mentors about it. We will explore concepts in psychological flexibility versus avoidance and how they pertain to our experience as trainees. We will discuss how to use our newly developed skills to identify expected outcomes for particular situations, and preemptively consider alternative approaches if our first strategy doesn’t go as planned. We have to do this in our grant applications, so let’s use our back-up planning skills in our personal and professional lives too! We will also discuss factors that enable us to talk to our mentors and colleagues to ensure we feel connected with people who can help us through our challenges. ? Join us as we create space for you to de-stress in a safe environment, talk to other trainees about your experiences, and learn skills that you can take back into your personal and academic life to take control of your situation. ? De-Stress Power Hour led by Student Clinicians, in collaboration with the UAB?Master of Arts?in Counseling program and the UAB Medicine Office of Wellness. ? Trainees from all programs and departments are welcome – no faculty, staff, or administrators allowed. This is a safe space for you to connect with other trainees, spend an hour to invest in your wellness, and skill build around the monthly topic.? For any questions or concerns, please reach out to Dr. Laurence Boitet, PhD ([email protected]).
