Historical collections in the libraries of the?University of Alabama at Birmingham?have a grand new space for exhibitions. The?Dennis G. Pappas Historical Collections Gallery?is a?3,000-square-foot space on the second floor of?Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences?and the exhibition home to the?Alabama Museum of the Health Sciences,?Reynolds-Finley Historical Library?and?UAB Archives. The gallery will house rotating exhibitions featuring the?UAB Libraries’ historical collections, which boast an invaluable wealth of preeminent historical record and scholarship. Such a beautiful Autumn day at yesterday's Blazer Buddy social! ?? We toured the Solar House, learned about UAB's sustainability practices, and enjoyed lunch on the patio. The Blazer Buddy program helps new hires gain insight about the department and university, fosters familiarity with the environment and culture, and eases the transitional period by facilitating a collegial connection. ?? The University of Alabama at Birmingham has received a $3.6 million pledge from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. The donation will support scholarships for students in the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine, School of Nursing and School of Dentistry. These scholarships serve to improve access to quality, affordable health care for all Alabamians and further address health disparities, particularly in rural areas of the state. Scholarship recipients are required to practice in medically underserved areas of Alabama after graduation for a period of three years. Read the story here: https://lnkd.in/eWEZD2eh

In this role, Storey will build relationships with alumni across the region and connect them to the University, highlighting different avenues to support to UAB. Storey graduated for Berea College with a bachelor's degree in business. She brings years of experience in higher education. Before UAB, she worked for the University of Kentucky in the School of Music, as well as the University of North Carolina - Greensboro in the Center for Translational Biomedical Research. Since its launch in late 2019, Live HealthSmart Alabama (LHSA), UAB's holistic initiative to improve health outcomes in Alabama, has emphasized collaboration and sustainability on the path to making good health simple. That’s why LHSA’s Community Leadership Academy (CLA)—made possible through the generous partnership of Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Inc.—is focused on identifying, encouraging, and empowering neighborhood leaders who will build upon the initiative’s early successes in neighborhoods like Bush Hills, East Lake, Titusville, and Kingston. Across 10 biweekly sessions on topics ranging from budgeting to conflict resolution, CLA participants develop the skills, connections, and confidence to continue advocating for their communities for years to come.
