Since its inception in 2004, the Division of Community Affairs at the University of Alabama has been dedicated to fostering meaningful partnerships that create lasting impact through community, student, and civic engagement. Home to the Center for Community-Based Partnerships and the Crossroads Civic Engagement Center, this Division is a leader in community engagement. Through the Division of Community Affairs, the University connects its resources with local, national, and global communities to address real-world challenges. From student-led initiatives to faculty-driven research, the University remains committed to scholarship that engages communities and changes lives. Our goal is to be a world leader in community-based partnerships, civic engagement, and engaged scholarship in higher education. We achieve this by advancing the university’s mission in teaching, research, and service through partnerships that benefit both the campus and the broader community. We focus on the 4Rs of Community-Engaged Scholarship: relevance, reciprocity, research, and resilience. "The 4Rs," as we in Community Affairs refer to them, summarize our vision for the University of Alabama to utilize its resources and personnel to address relevant issues and solve significant problems within our community and beyond. Future Leader Driven to Foster Positive Change through Civic Engagement and Policy Reform

Last week, The Division of Community Affairs at The University of Alabama invited students to embark on an exciting excursion to Selma, Alabama. This tour offered 30 students an opportunity to explore historic sites central to the Civil Rights Movement, with a focus on the Voting Rights struggle, while also connecting us to potential community-engaged careers within Selma. During this trip, we visited key landmarks such as the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Dallas County and the United States Civil Rights Trail Interpretive Center in Lowndes County. We engaged with local leaders, organizations, and professionals working to promote opportunities in Selma and the surrounding communities. These interactions provided me with insights into career pathways in public service that I did not know before. Huge shoutout to UA SCOPE and Crossroads Civic Engagement Center for making this possible!
