In celebration of our 250th anniversary we #TBT to April 19, 1937, when the construction of the lock at #LockAndDam7 was completed. Located in La Crescent, #Minnesota, the lock recently underwent construction this winter when new anchorages were installed in December. The original miter gates still adorn the structure today, though they are due to be replaced next winter. #Army250 #USACE250 #BuildingStrong #USACEMVD

(left) Lockmasters Brian Sipos and Dan Burger along with Operations Engineer Mike Holzer are excited to share that two new working barges are currently under construction for our sites at Lock and Dam 9, #Lynville, #Wisconsin and Lock and Dam 2 in #Hastings, #Minnesota. The new barges will be instrumental in supporting inspections and repairs around the lock chambers — replacing the current vessels that have been in service since 1927. 🛠️ Newt Marine Service is the contractor leading the build, helping us continue the tradition of safe and reliable navigation on the #MississippiRiver. #BuildingStrong #USACEMVE

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Some common distractions to avoid while driving: Adjusting mirrors, selecting music, eating messy foods, making a phone call, reading texts and emails. Some ideas to help you avoid distracted driving: Check mirrors/buckle seatbelt before driving, select/create a music playlist before getting into the car, and make sure the loose items in the car are secured; otherwise they may roll around on the floor of your vehicle. The safest policy to avoid distracted driving is if you need to attend to something, be safe and pull over. In Minnesota alone, there has already been over 16,000 crashes in 2025, the most common time being between 3 and 5 p.m. 22.7% of all injury-related deaths happen due to a motor vehicle. Make sure to protect yourself and everyone around you by paying attention to the road! #BuildingStrong #USACEMVD

Days one and two of the public hearing will be held virtually by USACE, with testimony provided from representatives of the Bad River Band, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and Enbridge Energy, Limited Partnership.
