The public hearing is for USACE to hear testimony on whether proposed USACE-regulated work would result in a violation of Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa water quality standards, and if so, if there are conditions which could be added to any Corps of Engineers’ Section 404 Clean Water Act permit issued. Days one and two of the public hearing will be held virtually by USACE, with testimony provided from representatives of the Bad River Band, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and Enbridge Energy, Limited Partnership. In celebration of our 250th anniversary and the upcoming change of command, we #TBT to 1870, when Col. John M. Macomb took over as the #StPaulDistrict's second District Commander. Spending a majority of his time in #RockIsland, Macomb delegated much of the district's work to a civilian engineer named Franklin Cook. Cook worked to preserve St. Anthony Falls and maintain a 3-½ foot navigation channel on the Minnesota, Wisconsin and #MississippiRivers. Before becoming head of the District, Col. Macomb served as the Chief Topographical Engineer in the Military Department of New Mexico. He was assigned to lead the San Juan Exploring Expedition, where he was tasked to discover if there was a practical railroad or wagon route through the San Juan River country into Utah, and on to the west coast. He found the country so difficult that he recommended against the construction. Today he is buried in the Arlington National Cemetary. #Army250 #USACE250 #BuildingStrong #USACEMVD

It’s more than just a splash. Can you guess how many people it takes to make one dive happen? Each operation requires a minimum four-person team: 1. Diver 2. Dive supervisor (responsible for air, communication, safety) 3. Dive tender (manages diver’s connecting hose) 4. Standby diver ready to assist in the rescue of the main diver #BuildingStrong #USACEMVD
