We are proud to be partnered with Summit Next Gen and excited to celebrate their JETI qualification and the impact it brings to Texas. With over $1.6 billion invested in the project, Texas’s Gulf Coast will become home to a world-class sustainable aviation fuel production facility.

USD’s Director of Corporate Development Jeffrey Phillips joined USD this year to lead Corporate Development and FP&A. Tapping into his entrepreneurial spirit and sharply analytical mind, he has since helped us manage our diverse portfolio of assets and look at new opportunities.   Although his career revolves around numbers, you will never find this die-hard Longhorn betting against UT with season tickets in hand for every home game. And as much as he loves a sunny afternoon at DKR Memorial Stadium, Jeff uses away games as a time to tap into his love of cooking to create the perfect game day spread.   Whether we need an Excel guru or a golf ringer in the foursome, Jeff is always our go-to guy.

After 12 years on the BNSF railway, Jon Harris brought his deep, hands-on rail expertise to USD in 2019. Our Senior Director of Commercial Development is a second-generation railway worker in his family, carrying a truly holistic understanding of rail logistics after serving four years as our terminal manager at the Texas Deepwater Partners’ terminal. This constant drive for growth and knowledge has led him to approach every project with a cross-development mindset, constantly serving as a reliable source of expertise and steadfast values that make him the ideal collaborator for anyone on his team. Outside of work, the force is always with Jon, as he is a proud girl dad and owner of three dogs, all named after infamous Disney royalty. He brings this same logistic-centric mindset to navigating his daughter’s hobbies as well as planning their annual Disney vacation. Texas Deepwater Partners is proud to announce we have initiated a partnership with Summit Next Gen through the land sale of 60 acres on the Houston Ship Channel. The land will be used to construct the first at-scale ethanol-to-jet-fuel facility to produce sustainable aviation fuel. This is the first of many sustainability milestones Texas Deepwater Partners plans to achieve in our efforts to become a major alternative energy hub. You know USD, and now it’s time to meet the people who help carry out our mission every day. For our first employee highlight, we’re introducing Michael Verhagen, USD’s newest hire, and Director of Corporate Development. Michael started his career in power trading before eventually moving into the oil and gas business, working in several upstream and midstream finance roles. Recently he joined USD this year to spearhead project finance, corporate development, and acquisitions across the USD portfolio. As an undeniable “people person,” Michael attributes his diverse career and network to growing up in different places across the U.S. These experiences have given him the ability to find points of genuine connection with anyone and remain flexible through any challenge. When not at the office, you’ll find Michael with a coach’s clipboard as a volunteer coach of his son’s little league, with a fly rod in his hands on a fishing trip with his two boys, or spending time outside on the golf course or on a bike. But no matter where he is, you know you’ll find him with a smile on his face and more than a few words of wisdom about the world of energy finance.
