Today is Manufacturing Day in the United States, an annual celebration of the people and companies making the things that make this country the envy of the world. On #MFGDay24, we thank #USSteel employees past and present for what they’ve done to make this company the backbone of American manufacturing, and we look forward to welcoming the next generation of steel makers to our ranks.

Vending machines are usually filled with sweet treats, but #USSteel and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation just delivered a very special new vending machine to the South Allegheny School District that dispenses treats of a different kind … books! ?? The vending machine is part of the district’s participation in the #USSteel and Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation Reading Champions program, which is kicking off season #4 in local schools. Participating students can earn a variety of rewards throughout the school year, and now at South Allegheny one of those rewards will be the opportunity to pick a book from the new vending machine that is theirs to keep. ?? Members of the #USSteel Women’s Inclusion Network (WIN) employee resource group (ERG) were among the more than 500 attendees at the 2nd annual AIST - Association for Iron & Steel Technology Women in Steel Conference in Pittsburgh. The two-day event featured a variety of panel discussions, keynote speakers, and networking opportunities designed to support the engagement and professional development of women in the steel industry. Two U. S. Steel employees -- Brenda Petrilena and Mona Dine – served as moderator and panelist, respectively, in a session on the significance of ERGs like WIN in organizations, emphasizing their role in employee development, productivity, and satisfaction. Bob Hatala, a mechanical maintenance technician from #USSteel’s Mon Valley Works Clairton Plant, scored a knockout when he brought U. S. Steel to the boxing ring to support the “Boxing Under the Bridge” event hosted by Pittsburgh’s 3rd Avenue Gym and the Western Pennsylvania Police Athletic League (PAL). “Boxing Under the Bridge” exposes area young people to the numerous benefits associated with the sport of boxing and involvement in a local facility like the 3rd Avenue Gym. These include friendship, mentorship, self-discipline, physical fitness and wellness, and a focus on making good life decisions. Learn more about this event and U. S. A new economic impact study released today shows Nippon Steel’s commitment to no less than $1 billion being invested at #USSteel’s Mon Valley Works would have a significant, positive economic impact on Pennsylvania’s economy in the first two years alone, including: - $476.4 million to $952.9 million in incremental economic impact; - 2,432 to 4,864 construction jobs created; and - $19.1 million to $38.3 million in local and state taxes to support communities. Nippon Steel is committed to securing U. S. Steel’s Pennsylvania steelmaking legacy in Pittsburgh’s Mon Valley through their commitments to date, including the replacement and/or upgrade of the nearly 80-year-old Hot Strip Mill and other equipment. This study reinforces once again that our proposed partnership with Nippon Steel is truly the #BestDealForUSSteel, our employees, customers, communities, country and the commonwealth of PA.
