It was a busy week at the Diana E. Murphy U.S. Courthouse in Minneapolis as Chief Judge Patrick J. Schiltz administered the oath of office to a second new member of the federal bench. Today, September 19, 2024, Laura M. Provinzino became the court’s newest District Judge. Judge Provinzino fills the vacancy created when Judge Wilhelmina M. Wright assumed inactive senior status.? ? Chief Judge Schiltz praised Judge Provinzino’s appointment, stating: “Judge Provinzino is a welcome addition to our Court.?She has been appearing before our judges for almost 15 years, and she has skillfully handled some of the most difficult cases prosecuted in our District. She is exceptionally smart, she is an elegant writer, she is always well prepared, and she treats everyone she encounters with kindness. These traits will serve her well in her new role.” ? Since 2010, Judge Provinzino has worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Minnesota, where she was promoted to the position of Deputy Chief of Violent and Major Crimes, as well as serving as the Project Safe Childhood Coordinator, Human Trafficking Coordinator, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) AUSA. In her role, she led the prosecution of high-profile human trafficking perpetrators, crimes against Native American women, child pornography, and violent criminal offenses.? ? The court now returns to its full capacity of seven active District Judges and looks forward to Judge Provinzino’s many years of service to come. #federalcourts

September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic American Heritage Month. The court joins the nation in celebrating and paying tribute to the generations of?Hispanic?and Latino Americans who have enriched our nation. “The Latino presence in America spans centuries, predating Spain’s colonization of what is now part of the United States, and they have been an integral part of shaping our nation since the Revolutionary War. Through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and the Treaty of Paris that followed the Mexican-American and Spanish-American wars, the United States gained territories in the Southwest and Puerto Rico. This incorporated the people of this area into the United States and further expanded the presence of Hispanic Americans.” For more information and events, visit: https://lnkd.in/eEsG_kg https://lnkd.in/gDgmZUdj https://lnkd.in/gpCDft9 https://lnkd.in/gtnd9J2z
