2ND UPDATE: During yesterday’s accident, three Soldiers received non-life-threatening injuries which required treatment at a local hospital. One Soldier underwent surgery and remained at the hospital overnight, while two were released upon completion of treatment. All Soldiers will be monitored and reevaluated by military medical professionals as required. All Soldiers were wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, to include approved equestrian riding helmets. What was initially reported as two horses receiving non-life-threatening injuries has been updated to four horses after a thorough examination of all horses involved in the incident. All injuries are non-life-threatening and all horses have been examined and treated by onsite veterinarians and remain under care and observation at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. None of the animals needed to be evacuated for higher level care and are expected to fully recover. One Modified Caisson Wagon was damaged during the accident and moved to the Caisson Detachment motor pool for further evaluation. The accident remains under investigation.

An accident took place on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall this afternoon involving Soldiers and horses of the Caisson Detachment. Horses of the Caisson Detachment did not escape but rather were involved in training and all remained within the confines of the installation. We are working to determine the cause of the accident and details remain limited as the investigation is underway. We will share additional information as it becomes available. UPDATE: At approximately 2 pm this afternoon an accident occurred at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall on Buffalo Soldier Avenue near Caisson Circle and Patton Hall. The accident involved Soldiers and Horses of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) Caisson Detachment who were conducting training and resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to four Soldiers and two horses. Three Soldiers were treated at Virginia Hospital Center, with one remaining overnight. Both horses were examined and treated by onsite veterinarians, with neither requiring evacuation for higher level care. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. Our primary concern is the well-being of those Soldiers and horses affected by this incident.

Last week, our commanding general and joint ceremonial support team welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba to Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. For ceremonies such as this, our joint ceremonial guard members form a cordon holding the flags of each U.S. state and territory and lining the walkways of the mall area that leads up to the Tomb. In addition to performing our nation's national anthem, The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" honored our ally by performing the Japanese national anthem, "Kimigayo." Last night, four elite teams were seen on the field at #SuperBowl LIX. Everyone knows about two of those elite teams who have proven themselves on the football field this season and gained the chance to compete in the final championship game. The other two elite teams represent our nation's military, our lethal and always-ready force that faces and wins championship challenges every day to #defend our homeland. Our Joint Armed Forces Color Guard is an elite team of top-notch ceremonial guard professionals. They were flanked by two military musicians from one of our nation's premier military bands, The United States Air Force Band. The other elite team, which was welcomed onto the field later, provided the flyover before the game to show that American airpower dominates the skies around the world. In that moment as they present the U.S. flag with our military branch flags and fly over the stadium, these two elite teams bolster our American patriotism and show the world that our military is actively defending the #freedom we all cherish. The Joint Armed Forces Color Guard and drummers from The U.S. Air Force Band #mentored over 350 JROTC and band students from New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy, Jesuit High School, and Brother Martin High School over the past two days.
