Captain Cora Allen is a U.S. Army legal exchange officer with the 1st Australian Division. She recently joined her Australian and Japanese legal counterparts at the Yama Sakura Exercise in Japan - the 44th iteration of this annual Japan-based exercise, which was established in 1982. This was the first time Yama Sakura ran simultaneously with the U.S. Army’s Warfighter command post exercise, executed by America’s First Corps, making it the largest Yama Sakura exercise in its over 40-year history. Our very own Judge Advocate General, Lieutenant General Joseph Berger, joined Lieutenant General Milford Beagle, Jr., Commander of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, and Lieutenant Colonel Jack Einhorn, Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for the Military District of Washington, in authoring a recent article discussing the future of permissive rules of engagement in Large Scale Combat Operations (LSCO). The article aims to aid commanders in developing confidence to assume prudent risk in the application of lethal force under rules of engagement, which may be more permissive in LSCO than in prior counter-insurgency operations. https://lnkd.in/gVEQEZjX
