Last week, I attended the 91st General Session of World Organisation for Animal Health in Paris, an annual meeting where global animal health officials and experts:? Discuss emerging threats,?? Recognize milestone accomplishments in livestock health and welfare,?? And set standards that countries will use to facilitate safe trade of animals and animal products.?? ?? The 2024 session held special significance as WOAH celebrated its 100th anniversary of championing animal health and welfare. WOAH began in 1924 in response to the spread of diseases, such as Rinderpest. Technology and animal health knowledge has advanced significantly over the last century – but what remains consistent is WOAH’s dedication to animal health.? ?? The WOAH General Assembly was a great opportunity for me to observe, learn and expand my network of global professionals in animal health, public health, and food safety.?? ?? We face complex challenges and emerging disease threats, and the conversations and collaboration we have today will support our world by charting a #sustainable future for #animalhealth.?

  • With the recent announcements of HPAI infections in goats, mature dairy cows, and, now, humans, animal agriculture is faced with a new disease affecting animal health and public health. While much about these new infections is being researched and explored, NIAA has set aside time during the annual conference dedicated to a status update and discussion. Because this discussion is incredibly important to animal and public health, there will be a webinar option for this segment of the conference. To register for the webinar, please visit https://ow.ly/hv5j50R6Z8X.
