The Administration’s proposed "Basel III Endgame" rules could make it tougher and more costly for Main Street businesses to secure loans. By requiring banks to hold more capital, these rules might limit the funds available for small businesses. In March, over 100 local Chambers of Commerce across the country urged the Administration to reverse course on Basel III Endgame. The rising costs of lawsuits are a growing concern for businesses and households alike. Main Street will face an uphill battle if the Federal Reserve, FDIC and OCC impose new banking rules that will add costs and reduce access to loans for small businesses in our area. The Basel III Endgame rule would stifle local innovation and hinder the ability of small businesses to launch and grow. Congress must urge regulators to scrap Basel III Endgame and prioritize the health of our nation’s small businesses. Recently, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform published research, Grim Realities: Debunking Myths in Third-Party Litigation Funding. Third-party litigation funding (TPLF)?is a multibillion-dollar global industry that operates largely in secret and is designed to maximize profits for its investors at the expense of the legal system, defendants, plaintiffs, and consumers. The research debunks several of the most pernicious myths perpetuated by the TPLF industry and reveals the “grim realities” of the harms brought about by TPLF. The paper also documents how courts, regulators, and legislators worldwide are starting to take steps to rein in the secretive industry. https://lnkd.in/egAsJ5sb
