This past week, I spent a wonderful 4 days in the capital lobbying on the Hill in conjunction with the Association of Big Ten Students’ Big Ten on the Hill Conference. Lidia Cappelletti, Liam Reaser, and I met with various federal representatives to discuss pertinent issues impacting the Michigan student body, such as financial aid, student SNAP benefits, research funding, and DEI. Though the state of public education and its programs stands on the fringes at this moment, being able to emphasize and advocate for its importance from a student lens felt refreshing and proved extremely fruitful. In addition, I was able to fully delve into the governmental relations aspect of my position at CSG by connecting with other student governments in the Big 10. We all learned so much from each other and I, for one, left D.C excited to begin incredible initiatives in our government. We even erased partisan lines by collaborating with the Associated Students of Michigan State University on our lobbying efforts. Shoutout to Connor Le and everyone in their government, a genuine pleasure to work with!
