? As we kick off our inaugural year, it’s inspiring to see how offering fresh air, time to play, and a few items for unstructured fun led our students to come together and create signs of welcome. ?? With sidewalk chalk in hand, some collaborated to draw a welcome sign while others wrote our school name, sharing their excitement to be part of this new community. Our namesake, William Tyndale, wrote: “Christ is with us until the world’s end. Let His flock be ,bold therefore.” Our motto, "Be Bold," is derived from those words. It’s these boldly spontaneous acts of community and creativity that truly reflect the heart of our school. ?? ??We are so excited to begin this journey with our new and returning families, and we look forward to all that this first year will bring! ?? #ClassicalEducation #InauguralYear #BeBold #UnstructuredPlay #WelcomeToSchool #Community

?? "This distinct contrast turned the world upside down." Indeed, we can offer to the world the beauty, mercy, and grace that the people around us so desperately right now. Thank you, Eric Cook.
One book I have come back to over and over is Rodney Stark's, The Rise of Christianity. It is a narrative of how the early church grew and how Christianity became the dominant religion of the Western world. In chapter 10, entitled A Brief Reflection on Virtue, Stark highlights the sharp contrast between the classical and Christian values in the ancient world. He observes that in the classical world, mercy and pity were considered "pathological emotions" that manifested a defect in character and were thus to be "avoided by all rational men." More revolutionary was the idea of extending love and grace to those beyond your tribe, those who were destitute and poor. Yet, that is exactly what the early believers did. Stark observes that it was, in fact, this distinct contrast that turned the world upside down. Christianity presented a moral vision that was compelling for its radical expressions of love. As Stark says, "above all else, Christianity brought a new conception of humanity to a world saturated with capricious cruelty and the vicarious love of death." Sometimes I think we in the classical Christian renewal can minimize the distance between the classical and Christian worldviews. Let's not forget the simple fact that, as Glen Scrivener points out, "Jesus' teachings were revolutionary in their time and remain so today. His emphasis on love, forgiveness, and sacrificial service challenged and transformed the world." Let's not forget that the Western world was revolutionized because what "Christianity gave to its converts was nothing less than their humanity."

"But a free will is not the liberty to do whatever one likes, but the power of doing whatever one sees ought to be done, even in the very face of otherwise overwhelming impulse. There lies freedom indeed.” ? George MacDonald, Miracles Of Our Lord
