I get this question a lot, "Is there a difference between career pivot and career change?" Let's break down the difference between a career pivot and a full career change so you can figure out your next move. ? Career Pivot? A pivot is a shift *WITHIN* your current field, where you’re leveraging existing skills but moving into a new role, function, or industry. Think of it as a re-focus rather than a re-invention. If you enjoy the general nature of your work but want more growth, a PIVOT could be the perfect path. Here's an example: I moved from legal publishing to contract management for an in-house counsel. I stayed within the legal field but I moved to a different segment of it. I used transferable skills like database management and legal interpretation skills. ? Career Change ? This is a full shift into a *DIFFERENT* field or industry, where you may need to develop new skills and start fresh. This option is ideal if your current career path no longer aligns with your interests, values, or long-term goals. Here's an example: I left the legal industry to become a career coach. It hasn’t always been easy but it’s been worth it. So, how do you decide whether a career pivot or a career change is best for you? → Start by thinking about the following things: ? 1?? Evaluate Your Current Satisfaction Are you dissatisfied with the work itself or just the environment or industry? 2?? Identify Your Transferable Skills A pivot allows you to leverage skills in a new way, while a change might require learning a whole new set. 3?? Consider Your Long-Term Goals Where do you want to be in 5-10 years? Does a pivot or change align better with your vision? 4?? Assess Your Risk Tolerance Pivots often require less risk since they build on what you already know. A career change might need more of a leap. Whether you choose a pivot or a full change, remember that your career should evolve as you do. Make sure your decision aligns with your values, goals, and passions. ?? Repost to others who may need to make this decision! ?? Need professional guidance to help you decide? Let's talk! I'm a career coach with more than 12 years of experience. Personal Branding and Career Coach for Female Attorneys | Helping You Stand Out, Get Noticed & Land New Opportunities

“Fix your face!” I don’t know if it’s a Southern saying but I was told that many times when I was younger. It means to wipe your internal disgust, annoyance, etc. from your external face. I’m not gonna lie. I find myself using the phrase myself nowadays. So, how does that relate to career clarity? Well, let me tell you! One of the first questions I work with clients to answer when they’re trying to figure out whether to leave their jobs is: ? Is it YOU or the JOB? I’ve been in both situations. There have been times when my life was in total chaos and that spilled over into my job so I blamed the job when really the issue was ME and whatever was going on in my life. I can now admit that I often had a stank face because I was generally unhappy. When I figured that out, I started cleaning up my life, including removing myself from draining relationships and soon that stank face was gone. I fixed my face! Then there were times when the job was an awful fit. Sometimes it didn’t play to my strengths so I struggled. Sometimes there weren't any real growth opportunities available to me. Sometimes I’d outgrown the role. Sometimes I was underpaid. I had a stank face because I was annoyed at doing work that didn’t help me move toward my career goals and/or didn’t pay me enough. To resolve that situation, I found another job. Face fixed! I'd like to share with you 5 questions to help you figure out the question for yourself: 1?? Do you feel the same in other areas of life? 2?? What are your energy levels like before and after work? 3?? Do your goals align with the job's purpose? 4?? Is there a pattern of dissatisfaction across roles? 5?? How do you feel about challenges at work? Deciphering between “Is it you or the job?” takes honesty, self-reflection, and courage. By asking these questions, you can better understand your needs and whether they can be met where you are or if it’s time to explore new opportunities. Then, you too can fix your face! Have you gone through this before? Share your insights in the comments! ?? Check the comment section for an explanation for each question. ?? Repost to others who may need to answer this important question!

Serious question, how is your 2024 so far? Have you achieved the goals you set last January? Did you take the steps you planned? Have you grown in ways you didn’t expect? Did you focus on what truly mattered to you? Are you closer to where you want to be? If yes, CONGRATS! I know you've worked hard for it. Pat yourself on the back. If not, that's okay too. Don’t be hard on yourself. You still have 2 months left to shape 2024 into the year you want. How will you make these last two months count? ?? Repost to motivate someone who might need it.

Just two months left in 2024, so here are a few simple actions you can take to make the last months work for you! ? Do a Career Check-In Take an hour this week to assess your goals, wins, and growth areas. Ask yourself: → what worked well this year → what could improve → how you want to use these insights moving forward ? Set a Mini-Goal Pick one small goal that’s achievable by December 31. It can be: → Update your resume → Enhance a skill → Reconnect with a professional contact → Set up an informational interview → Complete an online course → Organize your LinkedIn profile → Create a personal development plan → Volunteer for a project at work → Attend a networking event → Read a professional development book ? Create a 2025 Career Vision Board It doesn’t have to be elaborate, but consider gathering visuals or jotting down notes that represent what you want to achieve next year. This is one of my fave ways to stay motivated. I save my vision board as my desktop background as well as on my phone. Remember: Two months may seem short, but a few intentional steps can make ALL the difference! What will you focus on to end 2024 strong? ____________________________________________________________________________ ?? Repost to inspire your network to finish the year strong! ?? I'm also sharing a FREE downloadable Brag Book Spreadsheet. This is a dedicated space to document your achievements. Download here → https://lnkd.in/gfjPhFXs

Personal Branding and Career Coach for Female Attorneys | Helping You Stand Out, Get Noticed & Land New Opportunities

Here’s a harsh truth I learned: Fear kills more dreams than failure ever will. It holds us back from: ? Applying for roles we feel unqualified for ? Negotiating the salary we deserve ? Switching to a field we're passionate about ? Reaching out to people who could help us grow ? Sharing our innovative ideas in meetings ? Asking for feedback that could help us improve ? Taking on challenging projects to showcase our skills ? Pursuing further education or certifications ? Leaving a toxic work environment for something better ? Networking with industry leaders we admire Did any of these ring a bell to you? That's okay; Fear is a natural part of change. I've let fear control my life before and it was sooo awful. All those what-ifs were killing me! Then, I realized that I had MORE control than it. So if you're going through something similar, I'd like to share tips on how I overcame mine. 1?? Write down what specifically scares you. 2?? Reflect on how this fear holds you back. 3?? Define what you want to achieve despite the fear. 4?? Divide your goal into smaller, manageable steps. 5?? Select the easiest step to start with. 6?? Write down a specific action to take today. 7?? Complete the chosen step, no matter how small. 8?? Write about how you felt after taking action. 9?? Reward yourself for facing your fear, regardless of the outcome. ?? Repost to help others face their fears. ?? Need professional guidance to finally go after that career goal? Let’s chat.
