TWRI has provided science-based, community-supported solutions for Texas' pressing water challenges since 1952.
关于我们
The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) has helped solve Texas’ water issues through research, education and outreach for 70 years. Established in 1952, TWRI became the state’s official water resources institute in 1964. Today, we are one of 54 institutes within the National Institutes for Water Resources, supported by the U.S. Geological Survey. We are a unit of Texas A&M AgriLife Research, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M. We provide science-based, community-supported solutions for the state’s pressing water quantity and quality challenges through internal expertise and external collaborations.

We were excited to help host a Lonestar Healthy Streams Event last week at the Post Oak Savannah Underground Water Conservation District in Milano! Attendees were able to learn more about bacteria issues in waterbodies, receive educational materials and were encouraged to implement best management practices to reduce bacteria runoff. The workshop took place near the Big Elm Creek watershed, where TRWI has worked since 2018 to address E. coli impairment issues. #water #txwater #texaswater #stream #workshop

How many workshops have you been to where you get the chance to see dinosaur tracks and learn while being on a dude ranch? Our Texas Watershed Planning Short Course might be the only one! Hosted in January this year, 35 students undertook the four-day workshop to learn all about watershed protection plans at the Mayan Ranch in Bandera, Tx. It was a great training with lots of networking and activities, including the chance to see dinosaur tracks on the property (seen in the last picture, each white tile marks a footprint)! #water #txwater #texaswater #training

We kicked off the start of our Davidson Creek Watershed Partnership this week in Caldwell! These meetings allow us to hear from local stakeholders and work together to create a plan that benefits them and works toward improving water quality in the watershed. Research specialist Amanda Tague is the point of contact for the Davidson Creek Watershed Protection Plan and we're excited to work with Burleson County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension agent, John Grange to continue developing this plan. Did you know it's estimated that groundwater provides around 40% of the world's drinking water? Along the U.S.-Mexico border, there are a total of 73 hydrological units that help provide both countries with the vital resource. A recent study conducted by TWRI researchers focused on identifying areas within these units that may be in a fragile condition due to overutilization. Led by Rosario Sanchez, Ph.D., TWRI senior research scientist, the research, titled "Effective transboundary aquifer areas between Mexico and the United States: A border-wide approach," was published in the Journal of Hydrology.
