What a Day at The TXST SXSW Lab: The Bobcat Den! Today’s event was a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and the incredible talent at Texas State University and Texas State University - Round Rock Campus. From AI to space, semiconductors to sustainability, we tackled the most critical conversations shaping the future—thanks to an all-star lineup of faculty, students, industry leaders, and visionaries. A huge thank you to our sponsors, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Soluna, Keysight Technologies, and Michael Best & Friedrich LLP whose support made this immersive experience possible. Meet the recipients of the 2024 ACM A.M. Turing Award, Andrew Barto and Richard Sutton! They are recognized for developing the conceptual and algorithmic foundations of reinforcement learning - one of the most important approaches for creating intelligent systems. Barto is Professor Emeritus of Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences, UMass Amherst at University of Massachusetts Amherst . Sutton is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Alberta , a Research Scientist at Keen Technologies, and a Fellow at Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) . In a series of papers beginning in the 1980s, Barto and Sutton introduced the main ideas, constructed the mathematical foundations, and developed important algorithms for reinforcement learning.
