The president’s action announcing the prioritization of attorney conduct & discipline by the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security isn’t about law and order. It’s about dismantling free speech, due process, and the right to legal representation. The Texas Civil Rights Project won't be intimidated. We call on all attorneys to defend the rule of law during these contentious times. We must stand together to protect justice.

关于我们
We are Texas lawyers and advocates for Texas communities, boldly serving the movement for equality and justice in and out of the courts. We envision a Texas where all communities thrive with dignity and justice, and without fear. TCRP believes that legal advocacy and litigation are critical tools to protect and advance the civil rights of everyone in Texas, particularly our State’s most vulnerable populations, and to effect positive and lasting change to law and policy. We believe that by serving the rising social justice movement in Texas with excellent legal representation and bold strategies, we can respond to the needs of the communities we serve. ?? This International Women’s Day, we honor the powerful women who shaped Texas history. ?? From the halls of Congress to the frontlines of labor rights and education, these trailblazers fought for justice, dignity, and equality: ?? Barbara Jordan – A voice of integrity and the first Black woman from the South elected to Congress. ? Jovita Idar – A fearless journalist and activist who defended the rights of Mexican Americans. ?? Emma Tenayuca – A labor leader who organized workers and fought for fair wages in Texas. ?? Irma Rangel – The first Latina elected to the Texas Legislature and a champion for education. ??? Juanita Craft – A civil rights leader who fought for desegregation and voting rights. Their legacies remind us that when women lead, justice follows. ?? This #InternationalWomensDay, let’s continue their fight for a Texas where every woman’s voice is heard, and every right is protected. #IWD #TexasHistory #WomenLead #EquityForAll #CivilRights

?? BREAKING: TCRP Files Habeas Petition to end the indefinite detention of a Venezuelan Asylum Seeker ?? John Doe, a Venezuelan asylum seeker with no criminal history, has been detained indefinitely since December 2023. Now, he is at risk of being transferred to Guantánamo Bay, where human rights violations have long been documented. The Trump administration’s expansion of Guantánamo detention facilities threatens due process and raises serious concerns about human rights abuses. ?? We are fighting back. TCRP and our partners have filed a habeas petition challenging this unconstitutional detention.

This week, the Trump Administration openly threatened to defy a federal court order. Let’s be clear. This is not normal and not acceptable. Ignoring court rulings undermines the rule of law, checks and balances, and ultimately, our democracy. Rules only work if we all follow them, including the president. The Texas Civil Rights Project condemns these attacks on our judicial system and stands with the American Bar Association in defending the courts against political intimidation. Our Constitution does not change with the political winds. When those in power try to rewrite the rules to serve their own interests, it is up to the people to defend democracy. #TCRP will continue fighting for justice in the courts, in our communities, and alongside you. Now is the time to stand up, speak out, and protect the foundations of our democracy.

TCRP’s Criminal Legal Program Policy Attorney, Kirsten Budwine, testified before the Texas Senate Committee on Criminal Justice to speak out against the harmful bail proposals that threaten fundamental due process rights and dignity of Texans. We are committed to challenging laws that expand mass incarceration, target marginalized communities, and undermine due process. Texas deserves a justice system that prioritizes fairness and rehabilitation, not punishment and criminalization. ?? Stay engaged and learn how you can take action: https://lnkd.in/gw__QN8J #txlege

?? Meet Kris! ?? We’re excited to welcome Kris to the TCRP team! As a social worker dedicated to equity, justice, and meaningful policy change, they are committed to ensuring that traditionally marginalized communities are heard and supported in advocacy efforts across Texas. With a passion for advancing progressive policies, they focus on protecting reproductive rights, advocating for gender-affirming care, welcoming migrants, reducing mass incarceration, and building a Texas where everyone feels safe and valued. Before joining TCRP, they worked in public policy at United Way of Metropolitan Dallas while earning a Master of Social Work at UT Arlington. Now, they’re bringing their expertise to help shape policies that put people first. Outside of work, they live in Dallas with their cat, Betsy Bob Ross. Join us in welcoming Kris to the team! ??
