A study by Two Sides North America and global research firm Censuswide found that 65% of American consumers who have seen anti-paper greenwashing messages from their service providers were influenced to switch from paper bills and statements to electronic communication. The U.S. paper industry was among the first to take voluntary action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In 2020, U.S. paper companies had reduced GHG emissions per ton of product by 24.1% from a 2005 baseline.
