Earlier this week, I had the privilege of testifying before the Ohio House Education Committee on the importance of high-dosage tutoring (HDT) in the state’s efforts to drive reading and math proficiency for its students and future workforce.
Like much of the country, Ohio’s 2024 NAEP scores --?while commendably above the national average -- are at a two-decade low, reinforcing the urgent need for effective interventions.
High-dosage tutoring is one of the most proven, scalable tools we have to close learning gaps. That’s why states across the country (FL, LA, MI, VA, etc.) are sustaining HDT funding in a post-ESSER world -- not as a stopgap measure, but as a core strategy for student success.
With nearly 1 million hours of tutoring under our belt, we at Tutored by Teachers have seen firsthand how HDT consistently drives double-digit growth and proficiency at scale -- whether for 3rd-grade readers, 8th-grade algebra students, 11th-grade SAT test-takers, English Learners, or students with special needs.
I’m grateful to the Ohio House Education Committee for the opportunity to share our experiences and for the growing momentum behind high-dosage tutoring. Let’s continue ensuring every student gets access to what works!
