We’re still buzzing from this week’s incredible Child Care Community Café! Burke team members Atiya Weiss, Caroline Bersak, and Sanjana C. were on hand to help in this exciting effort to improve child care for NJ families. We have been working toward this day for months. ?? Six months ago, we launched the First 1,000 Days Policy Coalition with our partners Turrell Fund, Schumann Fund for New Jersey, Maher Charitable Foundation and The Henry and Marilyn Taub Foundation to put the health of families and communities at the forefront of the public policy debate. ?? Together with our dedicated core First 1,000 Days Policy Coalition partners, Rutgers University - Center for Women and Work, Moms First, Council of New Jersey Grantmakers, Advocates for Children of New Jersey, and New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA), as well as our partners at Via Evaluation (WBE), we worked on a plan to create an evidence-backed policy roadmap. ?? And at Tuesday’s Community Café – an informal community conversation model of collaboration - service organizations, immigrant advocacy groups, research institutions, policy advocacy organizations, business associations, labor unions, philanthropy, parents, and educators gathered to focus on child care. ??The community café focused on small group discussions to gather diverse input around the Coalition’s key objectives: ? - Build public awareness of the significance of early childhood as a crucial time of growth and development - Improve financial accessibility to make child care truly affordable for NJ families - Increase sustainable public investment supporting an effective early care and education system. - Strengthen the early care and education workforce Together, we have taken a significant step toward our goal of achieving affordable child care for NJ's working families. Change is on the horizon.
