I was honored to join Alyssa Nolte on the Taking Back Monday Podcast to discuss the way, impacts the work world!
This week on the Taking Back Monday Podcast, I’m thrilled to welcome Rob Connelly to the show! Rob challenges us to rethink how we view trauma—not as the events that happen to us, but as the adaptations we make to survive them. In the workplace, these adaptations can lead to cycles of professional trauma that impact our ability to lead, collaborate, and grow. One moment that stuck with me: "Trauma isn’t what happens to you—it’s how you adapt to survive it. Understanding these responses can help leaders create environments where people thrive rather than just survive." – Rob Connelly Rob shares powerful insights into: → How to recognize professional trauma in yourself and your team → The keys to breaking free from fight, flight, freeze, or fawn responses → How leaders can build supportive, sustainable work cultures This episode is a must-listen for leaders navigating workplace challenges or anyone seeking tools to overcome stress and reconnect with meaningful work. Don’t miss what’s coming next: → Jan 20: Sarah Ratekin, DBA, MBA – "Happiness is courage. Optimism can lead to more sustainable, positive outcomes at work." → Jan 27: Jean-Pierre Dumas – "CX begins with EX. Create the right environment for your people, and they’ll thrive." It's time to say goodbye to the Sunday Scaries. Listen here: takingbackmondaypod.com Have you ever recognized a professional trauma response in yourself or your team? [PODCAST] The first episode of the year is out - and it is probably my (Shannon Eastman) favourite episode of the last year. Roseanne Reilly and I hit record to have a behind-the-scenes conversation to resolve how best to incorporate feedback we've received on our 2025 content plans. We have been exploring how to communicate why the nervous system is so important to you personally and professionally. As it goes, this podcast left me with new take aways, new perspectives and a bit more clarity on how to package, prioritise and present what Roseanne calls, a nervous system informed approach to living a life that feels good.?This is the evolution of Trauma Informed. You'll hear the challenges, the debate and some criticism of how, and when and why along with a fair bit of Roseanne and I comparing notes that align her subject matter expertise, with my feelings, ideas and thoughts on the 40+ professional who is Highly-Functioning-Not-OK, and how we go about marrying the two. This #WTTLO content initiative we're organsing for 2025 is personal and important. Personal becuase Roseanne and I both know life before and after nervous system regulation, and important because this information has the potential to change your life if we get it's delivery just so. If you have an opinion, feedback or ideas to add to this exploration, you are welcome to get in touch with Roseanne or myself directly on email, whatsapp or linkedin.?Likewise, If you want to be involved as a content contributor, we'd love to hear from you too. You can listen on Apple, Spotify, Amazon - or using the link for the #WTTLO website here: https://lnkd.in/eAwg4whk

Build Bridges Towards Sustainable Healing and Growth??Moving from Survival to Self-Regulation with Nervous System Informed Approaches ??? Education-Training-Consulting ??1 to 1 Tailored Individualized Care
For the longest time, I thought I was saving my soul. That’s how it felt when I first embarked on my healing journey—a deep, instinctive pull to mend what felt lost, broken, or misplaced within me. But as I moved deeper into the work, peeling back layers of survival patterns, emotional barriers, and unspoken grief, I realized something profound It wasn’t?me?saving my soul It was my soul, steadfast and patient, saving?me The journey was not what I expected. It wasn’t all light and ease; it was a tender excavation. I had to meet vulnerability in its rawest form—to face the parts of myself that had been too scared, too silenced, or too weary to emerge before At times, I felt like a wanderer, unsure if I’d ever find solid ground. Yet, with every step, my soul gently reminded me? “I’ve been here all along. Keep going. Trust." One of the most transformative pieces of this journey was learning to come home to my body, my nervous system—the very foundation where my soul resides You see, our soul needs a home. It needs a body that feels safe, a heart that feels open, and a mind that can rest. For years, I didn’t realize how much my nervous system was stuck in survival mode—braced, guarded, and perpetually on alert. I couldn’t fully hear my soul’s wisdom because my body was too busy trying to survive, hiding the pain and the shame That’s where nervous system restoration became a key turning point By learning to regulate my nervous system—to shift out of fight, flight, or freeze and into a place of reconnection—I began to feel life in ways I hadn’t in decades. My body softened. My breath deepened. My emotions found space to flow without overwhelming me. And in this restored balance, my soul had room to speak, to guide, and to help me heal from the inside out Was it a journey of vulnerability? Absolutely Did it ask me to show up for myself in ways I’d never done before? Without question But was it worth it? Yes Because the gift of this work isn’t just the absence of pain or the easing of symptoms. It’s the presence of wholeness—the feeling of finally being at home within yourself. It’s waking up and knowing, deep in your bones, that you are safe, worthy, and capable of facing life’s storms with grace If you’ve felt disconnected from yourself, stuck in survival, or searching for a way to truly?come home,?maybe this will resonate Your soul has always been there, waiting for you with open arms. And while the path may not always be easy, the journey back to yourself is one of the most sacred, life-changing gifts you can give Because when you restore your nervous system, you create the conditions for your soul to thrive—and in turn, your soul shows you the beauty and resilience that’s been within you all along Your soul doesn’t need saving. It just needs a safe place to be And that place is within you Your soul shines through for you Sharing signposts ?? We are all on this journey #whoturnedthelightson #nervoussystemrestoration

Work is one of the primary contexts in which people become traumatized, and where Trauma adaptations show up. Trauma informed businesses will see incredible return on their investments in understanding and facilitating the actual wellbeing of their biggest assets, the human employees who make their business function. Overwhelm is a hallmark symptom that warrants investigation - not a state of being to normalise. Our latest Infographic is more of a #cheatsheet look at the origins of #stress that contributes to the overwhelm. We've included a few ideas on how to resolve the overwhelm for a state of #wellbeing that has bigger capacity, and a surplus of things like #resilience, #energy and #creativity. ? From chronic #anxiety, #overwhelm and #burnout to physical symptoms like #fatigue, #IBS and #migraines, these challenges are more common in the #workplace than you might think. ? #NervousSystemRestoration is a really important, early stage of recovery. Ongoing exposure to stress changes your nervous system (dysregulated) in ways that just can't be fixed with the thinking self-alone. ? When it comes to #toxicworkplaces, #toxicleaders and team members, you're almost certain to find "#emotionaldysregulation" at the roots. And unless your #PsychSafety efforts prioritise things like: #selfregulation, #coregulation and #coregulators, then chances are, the box ticking exercise will once again, fall short of an ideal resolution.
