This week I spent time pondering *trust* with social good executives from across the nation, hosted by Classy and GoFundMe. The view of the San Diego Padres stadium from the Classy/GFM offices was amazing; the shared view of world from in the room even better. Some takeaways: * We don't talk about "trust" as its own thing with its own systems and processes. * "Trust," the word, has been over-used and misunderstood for so long that the word is as worthless as "engagement." * Trust is best built and rebuilt by embedding constituents with other constituents, in community. * Trust is an emotion. It is the absence of fear. * Trust grows with transparency, low friction (great customer service), belonging, and overt recognition of any violations of trust. The gap between content creation and traditional peer-to-peer fundraising is closing fast, with the interim step being audience movement toward content creation. Content creators and micro-influencers are your new fundraising team captains. This "horseshoe dynamic" necessitates a revenue department overhaul. Without restructuring, we risk losing both constituents and revenue. Donors and fundraisers have changed the way they connect to your mission. Our audience is iterating ahead of us. To quote Mahatma Gandhi: “There goes my people.
