Conversations around domestic violence in the media are happening more and more – you may have recently heard some buzz around the film “It Ends With Us” and how it portrays domestic violence. Using media literacy skills is particularly important when we’re consuming media – especially related to domestic violence, sexual violence, or human trafficking. Here are a few questions we might ask ourselves before choosing what media to uplift: ? Who created it? ? Why was it created? ? What message is it sending? ? How are they sending this message? ? Is the message clear? Ultimately, does this piece of media show support for survivors and accountability for offenders?

Did you know that a law was passed last year encouraging schools to provide staff trainings in partnership with their local sexual violence organization on the topics of sexual violence and harassment in schools? Turning Point wants to help all of our area schools meet this recommendation, so we are developing a training specifically for educators! If you’re interested in getting on our schedule this school year, please reach out to [email protected].
