Currently the headquarters of TIAA, 730 Third Avenue was one of many buildings erected during a skyscraper construction boom in the 1950’s.? ? NYC architects, Carson, Lundin & Shaw designed the?tower in the International Style. Created in 2002, the nonprofit aims to transform the anniversary of the attacks into a day of unity and doing good. Every year, the organization recruits 30,000 volunteers from 21 cities in the United States and packs 8.6 million meals. Our Business Units in Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Seattle, Tampa, and New York came together to volunteer with our communities to fight food insecurity. New York Evening Journal, c. 1927? ? Located at 220 South Street and stretching an entire city block between Catherine and Market Slips, stands the former home of the New York Evening Journal. Designed by Charles E. Birge and constructed for Hearst, the journal’s owner, Turner completed the massive 6-story reinforced concrete facility in 1927.? ? While in operation, 220 South Street served as one of Hearst Publications’ main printing plants and distribution facilities because of its proximity to the East River. The building features expansive floor plates, numerous truck loading bays and freight elevators.
