We are delighted to continue the Operations Research Seminar Series with our second event, titled "Impact of Fuel Consumption on Airline Planning and Sustainability." The seminar was delivered by Prof. Dr. M. Selim Aktürk from Bilkent University, a distinguished expert in Production Management Systems and Airline Disruption Management. The session explored how fuel consumption plays a critical role in airline operations, influencing both cost efficiency and environmental sustainability. Prof. Aktürk shared advanced optimization techniques for disruption management, including the integration of cruise speed adjustments into recovery strategies to enhance both cost control and emission reductions. The discussion also covered strategic airline network expansion and the optimal aircraft leasing decisions to align fleet capacity with increasing demand while ensuring fuel efficiency, carbon emissions control, and reduced airport congestion.
