Low-visibility risks can cause the most damage since they're, by definition, easy to miss. At power plants, it's not enough to react after a failure. Processes need to surface and mitigate these risks early, before it’s too late. We’ve worked on this problem across the power industry, building models that not only leverage data from past operations but also incorporate physical models to effectively extrapolate to rarely-seen conditions. This blend uncovers issues before they cause catastrophes. https://lnkd.in/ehBziXT7

It's no surprise that PJM is concerned about meeting growing demand from new data centers. As coal plants retire, it’s becoming increasingly important to squeeze every last megawatt from existing assets. Ironically, one way to address this challenge is by leveraging the same AI that's driving demand. Hybrid physics-ML models enable operators to run assets more efficiently and maximize power output. It's great to see this important topic getting attention. We've been applying these models to asset performance and reliability challenges for years. https://lnkd.in/gnsKQVC7

With energy demand surging (driven in large part by AI data centers), utilities are reviving old nuclear and coal plants to meet capacity needs. But these short-term solutions will likely be outweighed by renewables in the more distant future. Turbine Logic helps clients maximize their existing assets, providing the most accurate predictions of MW capabilities days, weeks, moths, or even years ahead of time. Need more power? Let’s talk.

Here's a timely article about long lead times for building new capacity in the electric power industry. But this isn't just a problem for new builds – we recently spoke with someone who was quoted a three-year wait for replacement parts. Reliability matters now more than ever. Turbine Logic can help you keep your assets running smoothly, reducing the risk that you'll end up offline, stuck waiting on parts. https://lnkd.in/eYBAFCje

Gas turbines aren't going anywhere, but they are evolving. What's driving this evolution? 1.??????????Reliability: Downtime is not an option. 2.??????????Operational flexibility: Quick starts, fast ramps, low turndown. 3.??????????Efficiency: Especially critical for smaller units. 4.??????????Emissions: Meeting and exceeding ever-tightening regulations. 5.??????????Fuel flexibility: From natural gas to hydrogen and everything in-between. The most successful OEMs and operators are the ones who recognize these drivers aren't just R&D targets, but that they're the new baseline for competitiveness.

For sectors like energy, where predictive maintenance, operational optimization, and resource efficiency are critical, AI opportunity is massive. This means using AI to enhance diagnostics, extend equipment life, and improve real-time decision-making. However, McKinsey highlights that employees are more ready to adopt AI than their leadership expects, leaving a gap in the rate companies are implementing AI solutions. At Turbine Logic, our leadership is pushing to find ways AI can help us #RunSmarter to make energy systems more reliable & efficient. What's your leadership doing? https://lnkd.in/dNVqkB2N

The cost of reliability in our energy systems is a critical factor shaping our energy future. Recent analysis shows that achieving net zero by 2045 with gas in the mix costs $11.8B in resource capacity. Without gas or long-duration energy storage, that number nearly doubles to $22.1B. There's an intricate balance between reliability, sustainability, and affordability. As we transition to cleaner energy sources, we must critically examine these trade-offs. How do we ensure a reliable grid while minimizing costs and reducing emissions? The answer isn't simple, but it likely involves significant gas use. Comment with your thoughts!

The EIA forecasts solar to grow to 20% of the US electric generation by 2050. This means continued investments in solar builds, with capacity expected to grow by 124 billion kWh by 2027. As grid dependence on solar grows, so do maintenance needs. Struggling to maintain your solar plant? Stalled trackers, string outages, bad inverters? Ask us how we can help; we've been building a state-of-the-art solar fault detection system funded by the DOE. No need for more sensors, no need for more aerial scans; just use your data!

Remember when we thought our job was done once the lights came on? Those days are long gone. Now, it's all about capacity and reliability. And the numbers don't lie: ? Capacity markets now make up ~30% of overall electricity markets in CAISO and PJM. ? ERCOT's energy-only market is a fascinating case study in this evolution. What's driving this change? It's not just about having enough power. It's about having the right power at the right time. As renewables grow, so does the need for flexible, reliable backup. That's where gas turbines shine-they're the insurance policy that keeps our grid stable.
