We recently had the pleasure of hosting Jonathan Brash MP, Member of Parliament for Hartlepool, at our advanced manufacturing facility in Hartlepool. Mr Brash was joined by Cllr Matthew Dodds, who serves as Vice Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council's Economic Growth and Regeneration Committee.
The visit started with a tour of our world class facility, where we have cast over 97% of the concrete tunnel segments to construct the Northolt Tunnel east on HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd since production began in 2023. Segments are then delivered to HS2’s London Logistics Hub by rail, removing over 56,000 lorries from the road network. The group were shown our state-of-the-art automated carousel and telemetry-controlled robots used to support the production of the steel reinforcement cages required for each segment, ensuring high levels of efficiency, quality, speed and safety. They also met some of the members of our 180 strong team, 96% of whom are from the local community.
Mr Brash and Cllr Dodds were then given a presentation by Craig Sewell (Business Unit Director), Andrew Patterson (Logistics Manager, Hartlepool), and Jeremy Pallant (Operations Manager, Hartlepool) on STRABAG in the UK and our ambitions to grow our presence in the North East, with a particular focus on plans to expand into the nuclear sector.
Jonathan Brash MP said: "I was thrilled to visit STRABAG and see first-hand the world-class operations taking place here every day. It was also great to hear about STRABAG’s plans to support the UK’s new nuclear programme, which will create high-quality jobs and drive economic growth. With 96% of its workforce recruited locally, STRABAG is a fantastic example of how investment in key industries can directly benefit Hartlepool and restore pride in our town's industrial heritage. Our town has a rich history of industry and innovation, and I’m confident that we can continue to be a leader in across a range of sectors, securing more opportunities and prosperity for?our?community."
