Today, I had the opportunity to attend the Google Developer Groups (GDG) GDG on Campus | VIT Chennai Google Developers Group 2024, held at IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP), alongside my fellow third-year students.
As soon as we arrived at the registration desk, I was fortunate to run into Manikandan Krishnamurthy and Vijayabharathi Karuppasamy, two prominent figures in Chennai's tech scene who are also key organizers of DevFest.
The first session I attended was in the Main Hall, led by Navaneeth Malingan It was an insightful deep dive into Gemma models. He covered the workings of Transformer models and explored the standout features of Gemma. He also showcased a demo using Ollama to load and serve a Gemma model. The session delved into the intricacies of self-attention, multi-heads, fine-tuning LLMs, and various techniques for fine-tuning. It was a great refresher on the architecture of LLMs and offered fresh perspectives on Gemma.
During the break, as I headed to the Amphitheatre for the next session, I crossed paths with Abhishek Mishra a well-known name in the tech community who now works at Tune AI in Bengaluru. We had a fascinating conversation about databases and the current buzz surrounding Genai and LLMs, which seem to dominate every tech event these days.
After lunch, I had the chance to meet Senthil Raja Chermapandian ?, a principal software engineer at Ericsson. We had a meaningful conversation where I shared details about a project my team is working on—an app that recommends products based on user preferences using LLMs. His insights were invaluable.
The third session I attended was Priya S Tune AI. She delved into Gemini function calling, and it was a true eye-opener. The session gave me a deeper understanding of how LLMs are revolutionizing app development to make them more intuitive and intelligent. Though I didn’t grasp the full range of Tune AI's benefits, it certainly highlighted areas I need to explore further, such as LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and agent frameworks.
Overall, it was a brilliantly organized event, packed with exciting booths and goodies. Kudos to the organizers for such a memorable experience!
