NATIONAL FAITH & BLUE WEEKEND On Saturday, we were proud to take part in two events celebrating National Faith and Blue Weekend! The Mingo Valley Division attended a major event at God's Shining Light Church in east Tulsa. Chief Larsen spoke to the crowd about the weekend, and Officers were on hand answering questions about the department. Officers with the K-9 Unit and Helicopter Unit also attended the event, which featured free haircuts, a cook out, basketball games, face painting, a car show, and much more! Officers from the Gilcrease Division also attended a Faith and Blue event Saturday afternoon at the TCC Northeast campus! The Tulsa Police Bomb Squad K-9 made an appearance, and kids and families got the chance to check out the robot! The event also featured a cookout, games, candy, and a helicopter appearance! ------- ABOUT FAITH & BLUE: Started in 2020, Faith & Blue was launched to facilitate safer, stronger, more just and unified communities by directly enabling local partnerships among law enforcement professionals, residents, businesses and community groups through the connections of local faith-based organizations. The event is free. The initiative aims to re-calibrate police-community relations through solutions-focused, in-person, socially distanced and/or virtual activities that are organized jointly by faith-based or other community groups and law enforcement agencies. COFFEE WITH A COP! This morning, we got the chance to take part in three events at several McDonald's locations across the city celebrating 'National Coffee With a Cop Day'! As Major Roberts and Captain Meulenberg explain, there's a lot more to it than just a free cup of coffee! We take any chance we can get to foster positive interactions with the Tulsa community, and events like these provide the perfect setting for that. If you missed the events today -- we're planning many more in the future! #TulsaPolice

Happy #918day, Tulsa! Today is September 18th, which means it's 918 Day in Tulsa! As part of that, Mayor G.T. Bynum is making stops all around the city between 9:18 a.m. and 9:18 p.m.! Tulsa Police Chief Dennis Larsen is joining the mayor on this year's tour. They stopped by the Tulsa Police Training Division for lunch with our Special Operations Team, and got the chance to check out the new heliport that's currently under construction. Special thanks to 2 Pops Catering for providing today's barbecue lunch! #TulsaPolice

Gov. Stitt Signs Bill Regarding Search Warrants Earlier this month, the Tulsa Police Robbery Lieutenant, Captain over the Detective Division, and other Officers traveled to Oklahoma City for a ceremonial bill signing of SB 1660 with Gov. Kevin Stitt. Officers previously traveled to OKC to testify in front of a committee about the issue. SB 1660 enables Officers to apply for and obtain a search warrant for a person that has a confirmed felony arrest warrant or misdemeanor arrest warrant for Domestic Assault and Battery, and applies to third-party residences. Previously, when Officers confirmed a suspect with a felony arrest warrant or domestic arrest warrant was at a third-party residence, meaning not the suspect's home residence or the address of the warrant, Officers could not apply for an arrest warrant to search the property for the wanted person. Officers would have to wait, leave, or attempt to write a warrant for evidence in the crime being investigated. This created an obstacle for Officers. Suspects with felony arrest warrants could go into a house that had no relation to the crime under investigation and use the third-party residence as a safe haven, leaving Officers without probable cause to write a warrant for evidence. Tulsa Police Detective A. Derycke first brought up the issue and started working on a solution. The change in the law will take effect on November 1st, 2024. We're proud of our Officers for their work on this change in the law! #TulsaPolice

We’ve taken part in SO many back-to-school bashes and expos this year, and we’ve loved interacting with the community! On Saturday, Officer Broostin from the Riverside Division stopped by the Back to School Community Resource Fair at SageNet Expo to get to know the local community! Families were able to explore the patrol car, ask any questions, and learn more about how Officers serve in their area. Tulsa Fire Engine 21 with the Tulsa Fire Department was also in attendance, allowing the community to check out the truck and interact with the firefighters! The event was a huge success, providing free backpacks, haircuts, immunizations, and a wide variety of services and community resources to the thousands of families who were present. Thank you to the organizers at the Back to School Community Resource Fair for letting us take part in such a supportive and engaging community event! #TulsaPolice

Congratulations to our newest graduating class! These newest Officers are graduating after 30 weeks of intense and challenging training. They’re not done yet, they still have 16 weeks of field training before they are given a patrol car and out on their own. It's a full 11 months after they walk into the academy until their initial training is complete. Our department provides some of the best initial and continuing training in the country. Our officers can consistently perform at exceptional levels in the toughest of situations. We are built on trust, driven by integrity, and defined by excellence. We’d like to recognize the universities from which our new graduates hold degrees: Oklahoma Wesleyan University, University of Oklahoma, Rogers State University, Oklahoma State University, and Northeastern State University Are you ready to #BeTheDifference www.JoinTPD.com #TulsaPolice #trust #integrity #excellence #JoinTPD
