关于我们
Tulane School of Science and Engineering’s mission is to provide outstanding opportunities for learning and discovery in science and engineering and to foster an environment that is student focused, research intensive, interdisciplinary, entrepreneurial, and responsive to the needs of the community. The School of Science and Engineering (SSE)’s commitment to collaboration and discovery is right in our name. By re-envisioning the traditionally divided fields of science and engineering as a continuum, we are able to combine our assets in both, building an environment for innovation and discovery that is even greater than its powerful components. We leverage our strengths to cultivate results-focused thinking and enable revolutionary solutions to some of the world’s most vexing challenges. SSE combines the very best of a top tier research university with a strong commitment to high quality undergraduate education. Our faculty, who conduct research at the forefront of their disciplines, offer outstanding degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. SSE generates millions in research dollars for the University, champions undergraduate research opportunities, and annually graduates the largest number of doctoral students at Tulane.

The Gulf Scholars Program of the NASEM Gulf Research Program is one of our most impactful programs. GSP focuses on new ways to teach and engage undergraduate students to learn about the integration of energy, environment, and community health and resilience. It emphasizes interdisciplinarity in a way that different departments and schools within a university work together. It emphasizes collaboration in ways that bring the 24 GSP universities together to learn from each other—at the faculty and student levels. Last week, I gave a lecture for the GSP class at Tulane University for Ehab M. Tulane partners with Xavier University of Louisiana in the GSP. Last week, my heart was happy when Marie Dahleh showed me another level of their partnership. Here is a graduation cord that the GSP graduates will wear. Green and white are Tulane’s colors. Gold and white are Xavier’s colors. This cord is for both schools and I love it. Huge congratulations to Professor Michael Naguib for receiving the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Research Award AND for being listed as a highly cited researcher by Clarivate (Web of Science) for the fourth year in a row! This award it is given to scholars whose groundbreaking discoveries, innovative theories, or profound insights have greatly influenced their discipline and who are anticipated to continue making pioneering contributions in the future. We have some truly amazing faculty here at Tulane SSE and we can't wait to follow along Dr. Naguib's journey next year as he uses this award to fund a research sabbatical in Germany! Congrats again! #ResearchAward #AcademicExcellence #TulaneUniversity #SSEFaculty

Artificial intelligence at Tulane University will transform research and education across the board, notes The Tulane Hullabaloo in their newest piece. “We can work with the community on AI projects to solve…local problems and things like that,” Tulane SSE's Nicholas Mattei said. “[The Center for Community-Engaged Artificial Intelligence] is much more focused on outreach to the New Orleans community and providing research opportunities for students and research projects for faculty to go work and really try to bring AI into the wider community.” When discussing the future of AI in academia, Mattei also notes: “I think we’re going to see some rollout over the next year or two around most classes having some kind of AI policy…because it does vary pretty widely. But I think you want it to [vary], like you want different instructors for different classes. The way that I use AI in a [computer science] class might be very different than your history professors.” #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #TulaneUniversity #AIInEducation #CommunityEngagement #ResearchInnovation #AIResearch #HigherEducation #FutureOfAI https://ow.ly/2a8G50UcbSi
