关于我们

The Newcomb Art Department is devoted to the study and production of visual art within the context of Tulane University's strong tradition in the liberal arts. It fosters an environment of independent and collective exploration that promotes original thought, creative inquiry, and visual literacy. The studio art program develops students’ skills of rendering and fabrication as well as perception, composition and execution. Exposure to historical and contemporary art, vigorous analysis and comparative examination provide substantial grounding of practice in theory. The art history program educates students in the visual and historical analysis of art from antiquity to the present. Its faculty exposes students to an array of methodological approaches to interpret art across different regions and periods, fostering rigorous thinking and effective verbal expression. The department enriches the university and community, serving as an advocate for the visual arts by presenting exhibitions, lectures, and other programs. The department contributes to the creation and analysis of visual art by supporting original scholarship and creativity among its faculty on regional, national, and international levels.

We are pleased to announce the winners of the 2024–25 #RomePrize. We received a record number of applications this year, and the Rome Prize was awarded to thirty-one American artists and scholars, who will each receive a stipend, workspace, and room and board for five to ten months at the Academy’s eleven-acre campus in Rome, starting this September. ? “The Rome Prize is one of the most storied fellowship programs in the United States,” said AAR President Peter N. Miller. “Over a thousand people compete for the chance to live and work in Rome, inspired by the city and one another. The Rome Prize winners represent a bridge between the United States and Italy, but also between a present of potential and a future of achievement.” ? The American Academy has also awarded three Italian Fellowships to?Italian artists and scholars live and work in the Academy community, and the recipient of the Terra Foundation Affiliated Fellowship for a Chicago-Based Visual Artist.? ? Please join us in congratulating all the winners! https://lnkd.in/e7_kAHtv
