Our inaugural A Night’s Journey Gala last Friday was a sold-out event, and we don't think anyone in attendance could have imagined just how powerful it would be. ? We connected, dreamed boldly, and affirmed our shared commitment to health and justice. Many attendees shared how much they needed this experience and didn’t realize just how much until we were all together. As our keynote speaker, Malkia Devich-Cyril, reminded us with the words, “I am here with you,” we truly felt the strength of our collective journey – creating momentum for a brighter, healthier future. Thank you to every guest, partner, and supporter who brought their heart to this unforgettable evening. At Tubman Health, we know healthcare needs to be reimagined—and that’s exactly what we’re doing through the Campaign for Health & Freedom. We’re building a healthcare system that belongs to us. The Campaign for Health & Freedom is about creating a system that celebrates who we are when we walk through the door. A place where our voices matter, where care teams look like us, and where all our forms of medicine are respected. The Tubman Center for Health & Freedom was founded in 2020 by six Black, Native, and queer community leaders who knew we can create a new healthcare system by and for community. Did you know Tubman Health operates the Freedom Clinic at Rainier Valley Leadership Academy? This school-based health center provides essential health services to students and staff, ensuring everyone has access to the care they need right within their school! Today is a milestone for Tubman Health as we open the Healing House, our second community-owned healthcare site! At the Healing House, our integrative care team will provide holistic care to 350 community members, focusing on the mind, body, and spirit. What’s even more special? We’ll be testing and refining the healthcare model that YOU designed, paving the way for us to provide this care to even more community members in the future! Human connection matters—it’s about feeling seen, understood, and supported. That’s why we’re so proud of our Tubman Guides program, which puts these values front and center. Tubman Guides are here to welcome you right at your car, welcome you into our spaces with a smile, and offer you a comforting cup of tea and a snack. It’s all about creating an inviting atmosphere where you feel at home. But our commitment goes beyond a friendly greeting! Tubman Health patients?have access to a dedicated community guide who can help you navigate resources and address your health-related social needs. Plus, patients are paired with a clinical guide to demystify medical terminology and help them manage their health. With Tubman Guides, we’re building a network of support that transforms the healthcare experience. The Community Health Research Institute (CHRI) at the Tubman Center for Health & Freedom is led by scientists, public health professionals, human-centered design experts, innovators, thinkers, and community members who come with lived experiences to root their academic practice. ? We’re committed to community-driven research, uplifting community’s priorities, insights, and solutions for our health and freedom.
