It always takes a minute to get used to the time change after “spring forward” when Daylight Saving Time begins. That extra hour of daylight seems to accelerate all that’s fun about spring – new growth, renewal, and starting fresh. It got us thinking about the ways we’ve seen the TANF and SNAP employment programs we work with “spring forward” as well. Here are the top three themes we’ve seen: - Reducing Noise – revamping the ways that staff engage with participants, as well as realigning processes to improve the ability of participants to focus on the things most crucial for their success, while also building skills to problem-solve obstacles. - Coaching Instead of Managing – by shifting away from case management to goal-oriented coaching, staff become champions of supporting a direction participants set for themselves, rather than curators of plans that feel more like cookie-cutter recipe cards than a personalized roadmap. - Applying Human-Centered Design – simplifying processes, assessments, goal-setting activities, and even service access have been redefined to better meet participants where they are.
