Have you ever wondered how to get a 100-ton cyclotron/gantry into a lot the size of a football field? Stacked in a vertical format, a first of its kind, the HKSH Proton Therapy Centre is constructed 28 meters deep underground. The Centre contains two 50-ton half-rotating gantries, two 15m tall radiation shield chambers, and an elaborate beam transport across three levels. The strategic design offers flexibility and long-term clinical planning for HKSH. https://lnkd.in/dSExRtx9

Recognizing the inextricable connection between the environment and health, Boston Medical Center (BMC) continues to make meaningful strides to provide exceptional care for patients and surrounding communities. As their partner for more than 20 years, we've seen them consistently raise the bar and lead by example; we are proud to work with BMC and look forward to future advancements together! #Healthcare #BostonMedicalCenter #Patientcare #Sustainability
NEWS: Takeda Partners with Boston Medical Center to Drive Decarbonization Across the Healthcare Ecosystem -- Takeda Pharmaceuticals and Boston Medical Center (BMC) have initiated a strategic research collaboration to decarbonize the value chain throughout the healthcare ecosystem. One of the most difficult environmental challenges facing the industry today is greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions released from the disposal of regulated medical waste, including pharmaceutical packaging and single-use plastics. A key objective of this analysis is to effectively identify, pilot, and share decarbonization solutions that other healthcare organizations can adopt. This may include engaging with suppliers, waste vendors, and packaging providers to create new best practices and applications. Boston Medical Center will conduct waste audits across key clinical areas to identify emission hotspots and test new technologies to reduce emissions from the disposal of regulated medical waste. Scaled interventions will also be developed, helping to mitigate the measurable health impacts of pollution and extreme heat. As a national leader, Boston Medical Center integrates sustainability into its mission of caring for both the individual patient and the community. By tackling environmental factors that often contribute to health disparities, this innovative collaboration aims to catalyze meaningful change. BMC was the first hospital in the nation to leverage a rooftop solar array to provide energy bill credit to eligible patients facing energy insecurity, as well as opening a behavioral health facility with net-zero operational carbon. In February of 2023, the not-for-profit organization also issued a $232 million sustainability bond sale for campus renovations to enhance the patient experience. Overall, BMC has reduced carbon emissions from energy consumption by 94 percent since 2011. For Takeda, this partnership supports its ambitious climate goal to reach net-zero operational GHG emissions by 2035 and across the value chain by 2040. In 2024, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validated Takeda’s net-zero GHG emission goals as being consistent with reductions required to limit the rise in global temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Tsoi Kobus Design served as lead designer for several of BMC's campus redevelopment projects, including the Shapiro Ambulatory Care Center and the Moakley Building. https://lnkd.in/eh4TwMjH #Healthcare #Pharmaceutical #Sustainability #StrategicPlans #Collaboration

New Photography Alert! We went to Peoria, Illinois to capture the final shots of our recently finished, OSF HealthCare Cancer Institute. The five story 200,00 SF facility provides interdisciplinary cancer treatment, features telehealth capable exam/consult suites, infusion, proton beam therapy, and an interoperative HDR Brachytherapy Suite with direct access to dual-energy CT-on-rails. The space also prioritizes healing and prevention with a healing garden, teaching kitchen, and community and exercise rooms. The hood over the terrace reaches toward the street, creating a noticeable landmark and beacon of hope as you drive through the campus. We're celebrating World Architecture Day by reflecting on our recent trips to Hong Kong and Singapore! We had the privilege of attending PTCOG 2024 and touring a project of ours, The National Cancer Centre Singapore. We also made time to visit our recently finished Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital. Both facilities are the first in their region to offer proton therapy treatment. #WorldArchitectureDay2024 #Architecture #TsoiKobusDesign #DesignInnovation #Cancercare #Protontherapy https://lnkd.in/ePi9fJSk https://lnkd.in/e_Pi-3Ky

We're so excited to have Nandha on the team! From his first days as an intern to now being a full-time employee, he's already proven to be asset to Tsoi Kobus Design. We're thrilled to work with him and see how he grows as a designer!
It has been two months since I have joined Tsoi Kobus Design as a full-time designer after graduating from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Architecture, and I couldn't be more grateful. When I first stepped foot into TKD as a summer intern in 2023, I didn't know what to expect, but I was welcomed into the TKD family as one of their own. Since then, I have formed many meaningful connections that have helped me grow both as an architect and as a person. I would like to thank Mario Abanto, AIA for being my mentor over these last two years, as well as everyone I have worked with. I’m excited to continue being part of the important work TKD does in the Health/Science field for the Boston community and beyond, and I look forward to further growing as a professional.

What a great week for Henry Ford Health! Our team was thrilled to attend the historic groundbreaking of Destination: Grand, a new 1.5M sf hospital over 10 years in the making as Master Plan Architects. Along with the legacy hospital, Destination: Grand represents Henry Ford Health’s commitment to the city of Detroit and will be a critical step in creating thriving, healthy communities in Detroit and beyond. The hospital will deliver over 400 beds, more than 50 OR’s, and will more than double the capacity of the ED. The project will also include a parking garage and central energy hub, as well as strategically planned green spaces which will serve patients, caregivers, and the citizens of Detroit, while playing a significant role in meeting HFH’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2040. On the heels of this monumental occasion, we attended the 2024 Destination Grand Ball. We were proud to support this crucial event to raise funds for the hospital. It was a joyous night of celebration and community. Congratulations to our partners HDR, Hamilton Anderson Associates and the countless others who are making this project a reality!?
