Celebrating International Women’s Day 2025!?? This year’s theme for International Woman’s Day (IWD) theme is 'Accelerate Action', with the clear message that we must all continue to work towards achieving gender equality. To celebrate this important day, I wanted to honour the women, past and present, who have helped me in my career. My work story begins when I was part-time on the phones at Scottish Widows, while studying. An amazing job, surrounded by a lot of amazing women, but many of the senior roles were done by men. But, my own senior manager was the highest-ranking female around and showed me a path in business to follow through her determination and knowledge. She was also empathetic and compassionate, always said hello and was interested in stopping by for a chat. The impact of being inspired to build a career for myself – and being listened to and feeling cared for - has shaped who I have become. I hope I’m passing on some of that sense of empowerment in TSB. But it’s not just the leaders. The friendships we build at work are incredibly powerful. One of my closest friends to this very day, was someone I met at the call centre in 2001. 2001! Despite pursuing different career paths and life experiences, she’s my biggest supporter and ally and I’m hers. We all need them in our lives, every day. But my story of inspirational women doesn’t start there. My godmother was a senior civil servant in the Ministry of Defence in the 1960s. I can’t even begin to think of some of the challenges that she must have encountered, back then and back there, but her stories, guidance and humility inspired me every day – and her memory continues to inspire me today. Progress has clearly been made, but barriers remain across lots of industries not just banking. Women often have caring responsibilities that can affect their careers and presence at work. Issues like imposter syndrome and not putting themselves forward are common. These themes are also seen in other inclusion groups. It's essential to drive an inclusive workplace, normalise these conversations, and support each other. I will be attending an International Women's Day event next week but it’s important to focus on this cause all year round. I encourage everyone to participate where they can and share their ideas. I don’t have all the answers, but if I could give some advice, it would be to share and listen to others and most importantly listen to yourself. Build strong networks with other women and allies and remember other women look at you for inspiration. Just as I have looked to these three remarkable women (and countless more) who inspired me and encouraged me to take action.

This International Women’s Day, we had the privilege of speaking to Kathryn Hillier, TSB Senior Business Manager, about what this day means to her, her role within TSB’s Gender Network and the changes still needed across the industry. Read below to find out. “International Women’s Day is a moment to pause and reflect and to celebrate the incredible achievements and contributions of women around the world. We are all so busy, so it is good to take a moment to recognise the strength, resilience, and determination that women bring to every aspect of life. My role as co-chair of the Gender inclusion network is to champion gender equality and work together with various stakeholders to break down barriers. At TSB, there are so many incredible women that inspire me daily and have supported, championed and challenged me throughout my career. I feel it is my job to pay that forward to the future females coming into the workforce but also to advocate for Gender Inclusion across the business and work closely with other inclusion networks to advocate for change and provide opportunities for both men and women in the business to succeed. Last year's International Women's Day event brought together approximately 60 women in Edinburgh, and the feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive. It was an inspiring day, and we are excited that we will be doing a similar event in one of our other locations this year to expand our reach across TSB. We’ve also grown our Aspiring Women’s network connecting women from across the business to talk about what matters to them. Gender Inclusion is for everyone, and we have also initiated a Male network to make sure every colleague gets the support they need while also enabling us to bring more male colleagues to the table to help break down the barriers. At TSB, our co-parental leave policy promotes equality. Balancing work and parenting is tough, but supporting shared responsibilities can help women focus on their careers and succeed, especially in senior roles. It’s crucial for everyone to recognise both the barriers that certain groups may encounter and the privileges that one may possess, whether inherently or acquired throughout life. By truly understanding these factors, we can better comprehend others and provide meaningful support. It is essential for all of us to engage collectively to challenge boundaries and accelerate action – and I’m proud to work in a business that actively supports colleagues to do this.” – Kathryn Hillier, TSB Senior Business Manager. #ProudToBeTSB

It’s UK Says NO MORE Week – a week to raise awareness of domestic abuse and the support available to escape. At TSB, we’re using it to shout about the support we offer through our Safe Spaces and Emergency Flee Fund every week. And we've teamed up with Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA), Hestia Charity and campaigner, Sam Beckinsale to get the message out there. Our Emergency Flee Fund – which has helped over 530 victim-survivors – gives domestic abuse victims up to £500 to pay for essentials to make leaving possible. If you need us, we’re here. Talk to us privately in any TSB branch or via video call. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eW48BJJc

This year we’re celebrating 10 years of our Mortgage Intermediary channel, and we want to say a special thank you to every colleague, past and present, who has been part of our journey over the past decade. It’s been an incredible 10 years, and as you’ll see in our video, together we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of customers take their first step, and next step, on the property ladder. We wouldn’t be where we are without the networks, our brokers and their clients. Thank you for being a part of the journey. Let’s enjoy the success of the past and look forward to an even brighter future. #ProudToBeTSB #FTAdviser #TSBIntermediaries
