Proud to have earned a new certification from TryHackMe! The SAL1 certification is no joke – hands-on, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. I took it mostly out of curiosity, to explore how TryHackMe structures their certifications – and I was genuinely impressed. Despite never having worked in a SOC, the experience felt real: I was overwhelmed by alerts, digging through logs, and making real-time decisions under pressure. A huge thanks to TryHackMe for offering me the exam voucher – it’s empowering to grow and prove your skills. During the assessment, I tackled scenarios involving: ??? Live Alert Triage – Monitored real-time alerts in the SIEM, covering brute force, lateral movement, phishing, malware, and more. ?? Threat Investigation – Analyzed PowerShell execution, DNS traffic, privilege escalation, and fraudulent activity. ?? Log & Artifact Analysis – Used Splunk for log review and a dedicated VM to investigate suspicious IPs and URLs. ?? Incident Classification – Distinguished between false positives and true positives, and escalated critical threats. ?? Reporting – Documented findings for each alert with detailed reports and incident summaries. This certification wasn’t just a checkbox — it was a test of mindset, focus, and skill. A massive thank you to TryHackMe for granting me the opportunity to take the SAL1 exam at no cost! The SOC simulator scenarios are incredibly engaging — those surprise alerts perfectly emulate the experience of working in a real SOC. Honestly, this is the direction all certs should be heading.
