Every company has a mission statement, but not every company can say that it truly has a mission—a distinct purpose for which it exists. When we started TRUSTX in 2017, our mission was crystal clear: to help the independent, premium publishers that entertain, educate, and inform us get a fair return on the value they offer in the world of programmatic advertising. But, like all things, missions evolve, and ours is no exception. In the seven years since launching TRUSTX, we’ve seen the value that premium publishers offer to advertisers increasingly commoditized by programmatic. Cookies and MAIDs made it easy to find your audience anywhere they go, and that’s been a very good thing for countless high-quality, long-tail sites and apps. It’s also been a boon for the countless MFA sites that continually spawn on the open web, drawing value away from professional content creators and journalists. Despite the scale, reach and convenience it has brought us, programmatic has had the end effect of convincing many advertisers that context doesn’t matter. From our perspective at TRUSTX, we can tell you that it matters very much, and we see proof of that in results from the 100% premium, 100% direct, 100% MFA-free campaigns we run with our publisher partners every day. Now, cookies are fading into the dustbin of digital history, and with their deprecation, we’re looking at a whole new challenge. Publishers face a seemingly impossible catch-22: make use of their own seller-defined audiences, with all the privacy concerns and data leakage worries that involves, or see advertiser spend move inevitably to the walled gardens. If the latter scenario wins, we’re all facing not just a severe disruption to the industry we love, but also, as consumers ourselves, a much smaller and far less interesting open web. Starting today, we’re embracing a new facet of our original mission as part of Symitri, our new parent company.
