Great insights from our Head of GRC, Martha Raber, on her time at HIMSS. Well worth the read!

?? Back from HIMSS and still energized by the conversations, connections, and insights! One of the best parts of events like this? Reconnecting with incredible people—especially my fellow GA HIMSS members. It was great catching up with Dennis Palmer, CISSP, Christopher Kunney, FHIMSS, eFACHDM, MSMOT, Sepideh (Sepi) Browning FHIMSS, FACHE, CHCIO, eFACHDM, MHA/MPH, PMP, CHISL, Jordan Eisner, Cody Walker, Diane Fredrikson and so many others I had not seen in a while. The energy, collaboration, and passion for improving healthcare through technology never gets old! Beyond the networking, one session stood out the most: Gen. Paul Nakasone’s Keynote on AI & Cybersecurity. ?? His message? AI in healthcare isn’t a “someday” conversation—it’s happening now. We are in a “Sputnik moment” for AI, and the decisions we make today will shape the future of security, patient care, and innovation. Some of the biggest takeaways: ? AI is already transforming drug discovery, disease detection, and operational workflows. ? Ransomware remains the biggest cybersecurity threat to healthcare, costing $1.9M in daily revenue losses. AI can help detect and prevent attacks before they happen. ? Radical partnerships (like Operation Warp Speed) should be applied to healthcare cybersecurity. ? AI isn’t replacing clinicians—but it must be integrated into workflows for better efficiency and decision-making. ? The U.S. needs more AI talent, and healthcare professionals must understand AI to stay ahead. ?? The bottom line? Waiting isn’t an option. AI is already shaping healthcare, and we need to embrace, adapt, and lead the way. I break it all down in my latest article: ?? [AI in Healthcare: Key Takeaways from HIMSS25] ?? For those who attended HIMSS, what were your biggest takeaways?
