The biggest single turning point in my career was thanks to... Craigslist. ?? My friend Tad Carlson was ready for a change and asked me to review his resume. I gave him some feedback and we discussed the types of roles he was interested in. I had recently read an article that mentioned Craigslist as an option to use in a job search... Wasn't Craigslist a place to sell old junk and where more nefarious dealings took place? I had never used it. I decided to check it out and see if there were any options listed that might work for Tad. I had no intentions of finding a new opportunity for myself. I was happy where I was at the time and was working with some great people and close friends! I came across a listing for an Ecommerce Manager position locally that looked interesting, and decided what the heck...so, I reached out. I spoke with Gena Haley from True Source and she was wonderful. I had never worked with a recruiter before, and she provided a fantastic experience. I believe I took one of the first calls from her while out on a boat fishing on Cass Lake in Northern Minnesota battling spotty cell reception! ?? Gena introduced me to Rachel Lockett, CISSP, who hired me and, as I've mentioned previously, is the best manager I've ever had! ?? I also remember that Gena's manager, Brad Arthur, showed up my first day on the new job with bagels for the office as a thank you and to help welcome me. It was a nice touch...those types of "above and beyond" moments stick with you even all these years later! ?? That role connected me to so many people that played important parts in my career...I can't tag them all here! It provided opportunity to learn and grow as a professional. It really was a launching pad for the rest of my career and I'm forever grateful for it. ?? If Tad hadn't asked for a hand with his resume... ?? If I hadn't happened to read that article... ?? If I didn't decide to reach out about the role... ?? If Gena hadn't been a top notch recruiter... ?? If I hadn't found decent cell reception to take Gena's call... I could go on...and I know this could be said for just about anything...but it's interesting how things work out sometimes and culminate in such a significant point in your career/life. Oh, and Rachel also hired Tad. It worked out for him, too. ??
