True North: Supporting Our Nation's Heroes

Luke is embarking on his next great adventure- this time in Chile, where he’ll compete in the Patagonman, an extreme triathlon spanning over 226 kilometers! Set in one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world, the Patagonman begins with a 3.8 kilometer swim in the Aysen Fjord, followed by a 180 kilometer bike ride along the iconic Carretera Austral, and concludes with a 42.2 kilometer run through stunning canyons, past lakes and waterfalls, ending at General Carrera Lake. Along the journey, participants may encounter incredible wildlife, including sea otters, sea lions, whales, dolphins, foxes, and even pumas. Luke will be competing this extreme triathlon to raise awareness for clean water initiatives and veteran adaptive athlete programs! What began as a small rehabilitation center has evolved into a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with brain and spinal cord injuries. Each year, Soldiers’ Angels collects thousands of Valentine’s Day cards for service members and veterans, along with $1 per card to help cover the cost of packing and shipping to deployed troops overseas and VA hospitals. It’s a simple way to show appreciation and spread love to those who serve. Our partnership with Dog Tag is truly inspiring! One of the most impactful ways we give back to the veteran community is by sharing personal transition stories with veterans navigating their next chapter. Every cohort, True North Foundation founder Greg Parsons joins Dog Tag fellows during one of their Learning Labs to discuss his own transition journey, offering valuable feedback and advice to help them chart their paths forward. These hour-and-a-half sessions provide fellows with unique perspectives from professionals across various industries. This not only equips them with insights from accomplished leaders but also opens doors to networks they may not have accessed otherwise, all thanks to the Dog Tag Fellowship Program. Last week, the True North Foundation had the incredible opportunity to attend the 2nd annual MilVets Startup Conference in San Francisco. This event brought together veteran and military founders, industry leaders, and venture capitalists eager to support the military community. We connected with veteran nonprofits that help service members and military spouses launch businesses, learned what investors look for when funding startups, and witnessed an exciting pitch competition where entrepreneurs competed for a $50,000 grant.
