National Hospitalist Day is celebrated annually on the first Thursday of March to recognize the contributions of thousands of hospitalists nationwide. Thank you, Dr. Lyn Diefenderfer and Dr. Jamie Caudill, Troy Regional's caring hospitalists! If you are not familiar with what a hospitalist does, this is a physician who cares for inpatients, meaning they only work inside a hospital. They specialize in treating hospitalized patients of other physicians to minimize the number of hospital visits by other physicians. Welcome home, Abby Qualls, FNP-C, the newest provider at Pike Internal Medicine, A Troy Regional Primary Care Clinic! Abby has a master's degree in nursing with a focus in Family Nurse Practitioner from Auburn University Montgomery with eight years of critical care nursing experience and a year-and-a-half advanced practice nursing experience in cardiology. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of South Alabama and her associate's degree in nursing from Wallace Community College. In addition to working for Jackson Hospital and Clinics and Flowers Hospital, Abby was an RN in the ICU and Med Surg at Troy Regional. She joins Dr. Richard Boone and Suzanne Tompkins, PA-C, along with the rest of the great team at Pike Internal Medicine, PC.

Our people love to serve the community!
I had the opportunity today to be the guest speaker at the Consumer Economics class at Troy University. I was asked to speak by Dr Frank Thompson and to talk about how consumers ie patients view healthcare today vs the past. It was a very interesting discussion with a room full of young adults that had prepared a list of 69 questions for the 60-minute class time. After my talk, I was presented with the Professor of the Day Certificate from the class and had a group photo taken. Another reason I love what I do and where I do it....... Troy Regional, Healthcare Close to Home.

It's Heart Month! Please come see us this evening at the Pike County Heart Board's annual Heart Walk! In addition to the opportunity to visit community healthcare organizations such as Troy Regional, there will be fun, food, a silent auction, and chances to win prizes. The Heart Board is taking donations any time before the walk or at the walk. The board's goal is to provide money to further research to find cures for cardiovascular diseases and to saturate Pike County with life-saving AED equipment. Remember our Nuclear Medicine Department does both treadmill and chemical nuclear stress tests!
