A new study by TRL on behalf of the The Bikeability Trust has found that local authorities with higher levels of Bikeability training, are experiencing lower rates of serious road injuries and fatalities. Key Findings include: ??♀? Higher levels of Bikeability training are statistically associated with?fewer people being killed or seriously injured (KSI)?on our roads. ??♂? Total KSIs and cyclist KSIs were lower in local authorities with higher Bikeability delivery levels. ??♀? 74% of people recognise the importance of professional cycle training for children, underscoring the programme’s value in building safer, more active communities. As the UK inches closer to formal legislation for #escooters and other #micromobility devices, the European Union grapples with a different challenge: varying regulatory approaches across its member states. A groundbreaking study by TRL and fka GmbH, commissioned by the European Commission, underscores the need for harmonised regulations for Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) across Europe. The report highlights both the benefits and the feasibility of a unified regulatory framework to support the growth of micromobility while enhancing road safety. Explore the full report, 'Study on the Need for Harmonised Rules to Support the Rise of Micromobility and Increased Road Safety for Personal Mobility Devices', to learn about the proposed roadmap authors Ianto Guy and George Beard recommend for achieving a cohesive approach, click the link in the comments. #regulations #personalmobilitydevices #PMDs #escooters #newmobility #EuropeanUnion

Motorcycle helmets are PPE - personal protective equipment. They are a legal requirement in the UK because they save lives and reduce injuries. Riders can pay more for fancy finishes or funky features. But they never need to pay more for safety. Recently, the helmet test technicians at TRL tested two popular brands of helmet for SHARP, the Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Programme, a scheme to help motorcyclists make an informed choice when buying a helmet. One helmet was "top of the range", a high end name, retailing at approx £800. Designed in accordance with the new ECE 22-06 standards, it comfortably scored 5 stars. The other helmet, also a very well known brand, is designed to sell in volume at a price point of around £150. To no one's surprise in the lab, it also comfortably scored 5 stars. This is the enduring appeal of the SHARP rating system. It is the evidence that the price of a motorcycle helmet is not an indicator of its ability to protect the wearer from a serious head injury in a crash. Compare all the 2024 helmet ratings online at?at?https://sharp.dft.gov.uk The TRL test crew are looking forward representing SHARP at the Motorcycle Live Show at the NEC 16 - 24 November. The show is a great day out for all the family.?https://bit.ly/2qn78tM If you love riding motorbikes, or ride for work, and are thinking of buying a new helmet, please do come and say hello on stand 4C04. There is so much more information we can share about how to choose a helmet to help save your life. Our advice is free, and it takes but a moment to check the SHARP rating of the helmet you are considering buying. #motorcycle #motorbike #helmet #roadsafety ??
