We celebrate a new DAISY Award Winner today! The Daisy Award recognizes extraordinary service from nurses nationally. ???? Ortho Spine Nurse Barbara Dowd received a patient nomination from Jackie, who recently had surgery. Jackie says, “Barbara was there for me like no other nurse has ever been before. After my surgery, there was a complication, and my leg was hurting so bad. Barbara helped, she put my mind at ease. As shift change approached, I was worried and asked Barbara if she really had to leave that night – I was only joking, but I really did want her to stay. A couple hours later, there was a knock on my door and in walked Barbara! She knew I was worried, and she wanted to check on me. You have no idea what that meant to me. She said she lives close to the hospital and just wanted to pop back by to make sure I was doing okay. I have never had another nurse leave and go home and come back just to check on me. I don’t know what I would have done without the care and thoughtfulness of Barbara. She is one of a kind! Summit is lucky to have a nurse that goes more than the extra mile for her patients.
