Here's my first experimentation with Gen AI for 3D models, and it's amazing ?? ! Thanks to the AI wizard David Asquiedge, I had the occasion to play a bit with a crazy idea for 3D file generation. David asked my kids of 5 and 7 to draw a self portrait, then used these to do some AI magic and transform it first in a 2D "improved" version, and then a 3D file. The results are very, very impressive to me for such a first attempt. Of course, here it was just for fun, but imagine doing that for new product design: just sketch your idea, doesn't even matter if you've got a steady hand and good eye, because AI will improve it and generate a 3D file for you. On the brigth side, this will unleash tons of new designs and creativity, and will boost 3D printing in the end. On the darker side, is this the end of another job that seemed to be safe from automation, ie cad engineers? Another question: could it revive the old dream of "a 3D printer in every house"? I mean, your kids can now just draw their own toys themselves! If you want more info on the workflow, you'll have to ask David, but from what I understand, a mix of ComfyUI and Tripo AI. So now I need help from my additive manufacturing community. I'd like to actually print these for my kids, but I guess this would deserve resin based 3D printing (either SLA or DLP), and we don't have these printers at Nanoe. Anyone in my network could print these for me?

Generative AI continues to evolve, opening new possibilities for complex geometries in design. GAI has achieved significant advancements in two-dimensional images. However, in three-dimensional modeling, particularly with complex geometries, recent developments demonstrate substantial progress, providing effective results in terms of precision. In our ongoing project at Responsive Ground Research Lab, we have explored this process through a structured workflow. 1?? First, using Krea AI, we generated a diverse set of options based on a digital model. 2?? After evaluating the outcomes, we selected one of the variations for deeper analysis. To gain a better understanding of its three-dimensional aspects, we then converted the 2D visual into a 3D model using Tripo AI. This step allowed us to examine the model’s sections in detail, enabling a more thorough exploration of its potential. Through this approach, we continue to push the boundaries of generative design and its applications in parametric design processes. ?? Still grinding on the 2D Image to 3D model AI workflow, and I think I finally cracked a trick that works best (for now). Turns out, making white architectural-style images—no textures, no noise—delivers the best results. I guess the AI picks it up almost like a depth map, making the 3D reconstruction way cleaner. Been mostly using Trellis, but Tripo AI is catching up fast with some really solid outputs. Also, huge shoutout to Nikhil Bang for the inspiration—his recent posts definitely pushed me to experiment more in this direction. Still a work in progress, but this approach is getting me much better 3D models. If you’re working in this space, I’d love to hear what’s working for you! I took 3 views from the Jaguar Type 00, and used Tripo to do some quick volumes. Tripo is pretty good for precisely that, quick little volumes that you can combine with a LORA from the images, or to use as a feature sketch, and you can have super precise control over the views.
