Ken B., a former patient at our Above & Beyond Home Health and Hospice Care agency in Iowa, recently brought flowers to our office to show his appreciation for his care team! ?? Ken began his journey with us last year, when care team member Molly D. (pictured here) started seeing him for wound care. Despite battling some serious health issues, Ken maintained an incredible attitude throughout his treatment. “Ken was one of those patients you will never forget,” Molly shared. “We had many laughs together, and his great sense of humor and positive spirit made it a joy to care for him.” Ken’s story is a reminder of the incredible strength, humor and love that shape the patient experiences we cherish so much. ?National Social Work Month Spotlight: Kristina G. ? Medical Social Worker Kristina began working in hospice in 2012 as a graduate school intern. After some time away from hospice, she joined our Loyola Medicine Home Care and Hospice agency in 2023, where she once again felt “back at home, doing meaningful work” supporting patients and families. “I always tell families and patients, we, the care team, are not here just for the patient but also the family,” Kristina shared. “It truly feels like an absolute privilege that patients and families entrust their most vulnerable times in us… to guide, support and comfort them.” Over the years, her understanding of hospice has deepened, shaping her passion for this work. What once felt unfamiliar is now a calling—one she embraces with gratitude. “Reflecting on how hospice was once so foreign to me, to now feel it is work I am meant to be doing, is something I would have never imagined.
