Established in 1990 as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization, The Tricycle Foundation is dedicated to making Buddhist teachings and practices broadly available. In 1991 the Foundation launched Tricycle: The Buddhist Review, the first magazine intended to present Buddhist perspectives to a Western readership. Tricycle soon became the leading independent journal of Buddhism in the West, where it continues to be the most inclusive and widely read vehicle for the dissemination of Buddhist views and values. Our readership includes longtime practitioners, those who are curious about Buddhism or meditation, and those who do not identify as Buddhist but value the teachings of wisdom and compassion that Buddhism has to offer. Tricycle has been recognized with the prestigious Folio Award for Best Spiritual Magazine three times, and has twice garnered the Utne Media Award. Tricycle: The Buddhist Review is a print and digital magazine dedicated to making Buddhist teachings and practices broadly available. Tricycle also offers monthly spiritual films online, podcasts with leading Buddhist voices, monthly dharma talk videos, and a variety of online courses with expert teachers. Founded in 1991, Tricycle is one of the leading sources of Buddhist perspectives in the western world. The editorial spans a broad spectrum of topics, including but not limited to philosophical tenets, historical analysis, contemporary issues, and cultural commentary, all seen through the lens of Buddhist teachings and practices. Tricycle's approach provides a comprehensive view of Buddhism, beyond cultural and regional boundaries. Readers can explore a plethora of teachings, from Theravada to Mahayana, Zen to Vajrayana, and beyond. In Pali, an ancient language rooted in Sanskrit, the word 'dukkha' emerges with deep meaning. It describes a wheel thrown out of alignment, unstable and off-center. Picture a wheel, once functional, now wobbling and unsteady, as if it’s diseased. Traditionally, 'dukkha' translates to 'suffering' in Buddhism, but this misses the depth of the original term. Dukkha speaks to a deeper state of disjointedness and internal disharmony. It’s a call to recognize the imbalance within and seek a path toward healing. With Ruben L. F. Reality, as we see it, is crafted by our own minds. Before any dream becomes real, it has to take shape in our imagination. The conveniences we enjoy today began as ideas in someone’s mind. In this sense, our minds become the architects of everything we know. Buddhism suggests an even deeper idea — that all we experience is filtered through our own perception. This makes perception the lens through which we create and interpret life. In our pursuit of perfection, we often miss the beauty in simply being. Each of us embodies kindness, compassion, love, and generosity in our own way. Within, we hold the Prajnaparamitas, an innate understanding of reality. Our essence itself is a source of healing. But when we lose sight of who we are, that healing power fades. And in that disconnection, suffering quietly finds its way in. Human experience offers a limited range of bodily sensations. Fear and exhilaration, for example, often blur together, underscoring the role curiosity plays in understanding our reactions. For anyone who finds their body an unfamiliar or even daunting place, external support can be transformative. When moments of joy arise, consider taking a pause to sense if something resonates within you, stirring in your awareness. This practice helps build a sense of familiarity and trust with your own body. Instead of watching from a distance, we can learn to inhabit our bodies with genuine presence. Notice the contradiction, the delusion, here: we use, and even create, separation from one thing or person to overcome separation from another! - Roshi Nancy Mujo Baker Clear Faith Clear faith blooms when we recognize in another the possibility of living a free, happy, peaceful life, and this recognition compels us to look for a way to get there ourselves. - Vanessa Zuisei Goddard Start your morning off on a positive note with a quick hit of Buddhist wisdom - Subscribe to our free newsletter "Daily Dharma."
